    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

Yeah, at least in my case. I understand that others aren't as interested in an active surround mix. To each their own.

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

Yes. It was colorized for the Anthology back in the 90's and that's the version they've used. That's also why I strongly suspect that the other clips that are film-based that they transferred for the Anthology back then are not 1080p 24fps. They just used an old 1080i NTSC transfer instead of...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

The frame rates aren't correct for many of the clips. The link below goes into better detail than I could. It is what it is, though, and we aren't getting anything better for the time being. http://wogew.blogspot.com/2015/11/analysing-1-and-1.html

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

The difference is that the video wasn't really upgraded. It was still the same NTSC transfer created for the VHS and Laserdisc release. I'd be really happy if they were able to upgrade the video to HD for a Blu-ray release, but that would be a much more labor-and-cost-intensive proposition than...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

It will be tough to do an HD version of Anthology without going back and completely re-editing the whole shebang. Because it was made for the TV and home video standards of the 1990s, it was edited on video. At least it looks that way on the DVDs. The interviews and much of the clips were...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

Tony, thanks for the link. Yes, they would have had to either change the TV monitor to 24fps or the film camera to 25fps in order to film PAL TV monitors, however that would have been just for those scenes. The remainder of the film would have been 24fps, which has been the standard since sound...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

Interesting. I wasn't aware that things were shot on film at 25fps but if it was intended just for broadcast on UK television, that makes logical sense. Was that a common practice?

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

It changes back and forth from 24fps to 29.97fps. What is disappointing is that some of the film-based material is presented in 29.97fps 1080i, likely because it was an old HD master they already had and they didn't bother to do a better 24fps 1080p transfer. I don't know. Maybe those were...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

The stereo mixes on the CD are entirely new mixes using the original session tapes. Some of these stereo mixes are also on the Blu-rays. Whether or not the studio tracks are on the Blu-ray depends upon the video that is being shown. If the video originally had any live music performance element...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

Nope. The stereo remixes are completely different from the 5.1. In fact, many of the stereo mixes aren't even on the Blu-rays because the versions of the songs featured were live or, in the case of the Let It Be material, not the overproduced Phil Spector versions.

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

It isn't so much that they can't be heard, they just blend in to the rest of the instruments more than they should. All of the instruments are given equal emphasis instead of giving prominence to some over others, like in the original mixes. I noticed the same thing with the backing vocals on...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

A little of both. There are several that look like tape and others that show signs of being kinescopes that have had some work done on them to make them resemble tape again, similar to what has been done with Doctor Who episodes for which only 16mm film copies exist.

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

I've made my way through all of the first Blu-ray and several of the songs on the second. In a lot of ways, it wasn't what I was expecting, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are quite a few live performances and semi-live performances that mix pre-recorded tracks with live vocals...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

Just got mine and am preparing to tear off the plastic and pop that sucker in my Blu-ray player. So excited! I'll be back later with my impressions of it. EDIT: Real quick update. The book content is nice. Lots of pictures and information about the videos. I do wish it had been a separate...

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Yeah, it's a lot of people with very strong opinions on what should and shouldn't be heard in the mixes and how it's obvious to anyone with ears that the new mixes were created by robots Hell-bent on destroying the Beatles and humanity as we know it. Not much...

Whatever you do, don't go over to the Steve Hoffman forums and read the thread on this release that is now waaaaay over 200 pages long. Whenever I want to feel better about our nitpicking on the HTF, I go over there.

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

I can't get over the clarity of the new sound mixes. They aren't drastically different from the originals in terms of levels, but, for lack of a better term, there is "air" to them that allows you to hear each layer with a clarity I've not heard before. "A Day in the Life" brought tears to my...

Yeah, it certainly appears to be what George was saying. He's not wrong. :) It gives the song a nice, hard edge, though.

The new sound mixes on these are AMAZING. I can't wait for the release date.

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

I'm all for making the surround mixes as active as possible. I feel about surround mixes the same way I feel about 3D movies: If I'm choosing to watch/listen in that format, it's because I want my senses overwhelmed. Throw stuff at me! I used to love throwing on the music-only track on the...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

Because of the way that The Beatles, George Martin, and Geoff Emerick recorded the songs, that isn't the case. I have a copy of a 1999 article from Mix Magazine about the Yellow Submarine film and Songtrack remix that explains the situation. The Beatles were so far ahead of pretty much everyone...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

$60, though. Ouch. As a Beatles fan, I'll bite the bullet, of course, but it's going to really hurt. I really enjoyed the new mixes on the Yellow Submarine Songtrack (except for the weirdly out-of-sync Eleanor Rigby) so hopefully these new mixes will be similar. I know it's blasphemy, but I'd be...
