Should all speakers be set to small.....even though the fronts will be Klipsch RF3II's & the center will be RC3II? Will the receiver calibrate the sub?

do I need or can someone recommend for connecting this to the Pioneer 45TX? A local store told me I needed to hook up "both" cables to the sub for better & louder sound? The SVS manual says I don't need to do that........who is correct? Also, won't the pioneer calibrate and setup the sub...
