No. I've not had a BR player connected to the internet ever and have never needed an update for it to work. My current player fires up in 5 seconds or so and the disc is playing (either the vendor junk or at a menu) in 10 seconds or less - and that includes the boot up time. Basically the...

Amazon now has a Prime Video app for Windows which now allows videos to be "downloaded." It must be installed from the MS store (blech) and I'd expect it to suffer from the same limited playback capabilities as with the other devices on which downloading is supported.

I recently got a 3" DVD in a spool of macrame twine I purchased for my granddaughters to play around with. It has video ideas for things to make.

That "article" is lots of double talk with the guy mainly giving "reasons" why you should purchase vinyl - and he has a vested interest. I absolutely detest spending 2-3 hours in a restaurant for a meal when I can often make it at home in far less time for far less money and have it taste far...

400Mbps internet, a 4K BR player (that upscales very well), and a 49" display (I'm guessing it upscales quite well itself as my region free DVD player also looks good on it - but most of that is pre-HD R2 TV shows which are going to look better than NTSC anyway). I stream on an XBox-360 (on a...

Blu-ray failed as much as anything because the average viewer just didn't see the improvement in the image like they did going from tape to DVD. It didn't help that the image quality of many early BR releases was only marginally better than the DVD they were replacing - heck there are still...

You can easily find Game of Thrones on both BR and DVD at stores here. Its sales figures somewhat mirror the difference between overall DVD and BR sales. I still purchase DVDs *if* the title can't be purchased on BR. There are also a few TV series I started on DVD and just kept that format...

Here are some recent examples from November 2019 - Historically, there's very little variance: DVD is DVD only. Blu-Ray includes combo-paks with BR/DVD as well as UHD titles. The last 2 weeks are interesting in that the week ending 11/23, with the large drop, was BF week last year...

Movies and TV series. Historically, with only a couple of months exception, DVDs outsell BR every month.

I don't see a complete "retiring" of DVD *or* BR players for the forseeable future. Record players never went completely away and sales of vinyl records dropped far lower than DVD/BR sales before the retro fad brought 'em back.

In a way they do. When I switched from DSL (3Mbps with a 1 Terrabyte(!) cap - no way to even come close at that speed) to Cable internet I had a 200Mbps connection - but a 250Gb data cap. It's just my wife and me and neither of us do much streaming (although I do quite a bit of dling -...

That may not be too far off. IIRC Netflix has already realized there's more "worth" in their programming if they release it on a regular schedule rather than all at once and have a few of their own shows being released that way. Basically they woke up and realized lots of people would binge...

It's not "if" but *when* that happens. It's already started - at least on the so called "non premium" services. The majority (all?) of those commercials are also non-skippable. The few times in the past year I've streamed something with commercials they've been rather short - much like 70s TV...

Yes, I know that. The big issue is searchability. You shouldn't have to use a 3rd party just to find out a site offerings. That screams poor interface and customer support.

I've considered subscribing to various streaming services on occasion. The *one* thing that always stops me is the inability to find out exactly what movies and/or TV shows they offer. If I can't search your database and/or get a comprehensive list *before* I give you money for a subscription...

Very few people - ever - have had a desire to own a large collection of anything. Age is not a factor. Some people like to have a favorite book/CD/movie or two, maybe even a couple of dozen, but rarely more. Most people I've known didn't have, or want, any at all - even in the pre-digital...

I got a new BR set (some obscure space opera movies from some guy named Lucas) and have a DVD on order (should arrive next week). I purchase DVDs for those movies and TV shows that've not received a BR release and are likely to not receive such a release. Due to the size of my collection...

According to "Media Play News" research, BR, since its inception, has only outsold DVD a couple of months and even then only by a small margin. UHD sales are even smaller. That trend doesn't look to be changing. I'm a network administrator for a large school district (~10,000 users). All our...

Disc ownership has always been somewhat a fad with the general public. They've *never* had a huge interest in owning a huge collection of anything. Most only owned a few records/tapes/CDs and when they could finally scratch that itch with streaming music *and* be able to select what they...

Until I can sell the rights to the copies of digital titles I've purchased or will my digital collection to my heirs, digital is *not* ownership but long term renting. I'm happy to stream some things but not "own" digital copies for which I've spent real money.

For most people simply seeing a lot of horror titles is enough for them to question... It seems that with a half dozen or so and you're "OK" but much over that and you're suddenly creepy and weird. So... throw in some Disney/animation/kid movies and then some horror and hide all the other...
