I own a copy of that set but have yet to open and watch it. Guess I should, eh? At least this new release is currently far more reasonably priced.

I'd say those ads are due to the typical audience for MeTV. It seems to be aimed directly at us aging kids from the 60s/70s with it's programming. Just seems logical the commercials would be aimed at that age group as well. Most of today's kids are watching youtube or streaming and not "live"...

I really feel sorry for today's kids and the lack of those super Saturday morning cartoon shows. While I'm a 60s kid and don't care for most of the later ones they were *still* better than most of what passes for kid's cartoon shows today. And the last time I bothered to check Saturday...

It's a rerelease with added "box o junk" stuff. The original release was in 2012 and is still available: It has *these* "special features": Interviews with Allan Sandler & Bob Emenegger "I Created Lancelot Link" Documentary by Jeff Krulik and Diane Bernard Footage of Lancelot Link and Allan...

I have the existing S1 & S2 releases for 'Til Death but will purchase this complete series set once it does the standard MC price drop. I watched it during the original airings and generally liked it. I don't recall it "getting weird" but it *has* been quite a while since I've seen those episodes.

It's about time! I've been checking the Rifleman website every couple of weeks just itching for S5V2 to show up for pre-order.

I own a copy of the Network region free release (60hz transfer for the US) from last year. It's an excellent release. The PQ is astounding - especially considering it was produced on 2" video tape and 16mm film. The *only* negative thing I have to say about the release is there are no chapter...

Well... they don't have all the numbers because they don't ask "hardcore collectors." I consider myself in that group based on the size of the collection and number of titles I purchase on a regular basis. I very rarely purchase MOD releases. IIRC I have 3 out of a collection of over 550...

The original Shout! release has 19 discs. Since this is a rerelease I'd expect it to be packaged the same as before. At the worst, 2 seasons per case. I don't think Shout! has ever used a Megapak case.

Which is why I'll be waiting on reviews before considering a purchase.

Guaranteed cash in hand while a self release doesn't guarantee any returns. i.e. No risk on their part.

That's what I believe as well. I'm basing that on Shout's MSRP. Series like The Bob Newhart Show and Green Acres, which didn't have music rights to worry about, had higher MSRPs on release. And they're half hour shows of 142 and 170 episodes with Northern Exposure having 110 hour length...

    TV on DVD news roundup

The first Universal release of some seasons of Northern Exposure were on the dreaded DVD-18 flippies so there's at least that issue gone. I don't know if that one got a SS disc re-release like other Universal series that'd been on flippies. I'm a bit surprised at how low the Shout price is...

    TV on DVD news roundup

I'm happy MC got 12 Monkeys. The MOD of S3 & S4 cost almost as much as the MC complete set and that MC set will likely drop in price by release date. It's also listed as 8 discs. That, too, should be OK as S1 & S2 are 3 discs each with S3 & S4 on 2 discs each. I'd not expect much, if any...

    TV on DVD news roundup

Well... not exactly. In the 80s an attempt was made to institute a "tape tax" where blank tape and recorders would have had fees added, as a tax, to pre-pay for alleged copyright infringement. It was assumed if you purchased a tape recorder and blank tape it was to make a copy of a record/tape...

Tape suffers from stiction and oxide flaking - not to mention wonky transports that'll rip a tape in two before you can blink. Having worked with tape, audio and video, for decades I'd say it's just as prone to failure as any other media. "Hollywood" has never liked the ability for the average...

No, but they (KINO and Shout!) price their product as if they do. I know they have licensing costs and limited availability for distribution but I have to think they'd move almost double the amount of product and make a larger profit if they lowered their prices by only 25%.

I'd say because they overprice their BR product on a very regular basis. IMHO they're generally worse than either KINO or Shout! in that respect.

"MOD" products may not be inferior but they're vastly overpriced. That alone keeps me away from them.

That's my thinking as well. I'm OK with that as I generally like those "Megapak" things and would love to purchase some to repackage some of my more "expansive" sets.

Yes, He Man and the Masters of the Universe was first released in half-season sets by BCI/Eclipse, went OOP (and up in price dramatically), got a re-release by Mill Creek on fewer discs (12) which is OOP (and high priced). This new Universal one says 16 discs. The original from BCI was 24...

I'd hope for less than $30. You can purchase the individual seasons from Amazon (not MP vendors), right now, for $26.49.

^Why? It's just a repackage of the 3 seasons, all of which are still available. They need to release S4 instead of yet another repackage job.

They both look good but I'd say the art on those two releases is absolutely intended to mislead people into thinking it's newer productions. I'd hope the backs at least indicate what's inside.

Wow! You must have seen some truly cut up episodes! I watched in the late 50s/early 60s. Where I grew up R&B came on after Captain Kangaroo for a while. I always liked Dudley Do-Right, Aesop and Son, and Fractured Fairy Tales but not so much Rocky and Bullwinkle. That was mostly because of...

Once upon a time I would have agreed with this. However their latest 3 Stooges release appears to be nothing but a repackage of previously released material. Reports are they didn't even bother to change the original menus and nothing was remastered. Some of that material was originally a MC...

I did exactly that a couple of years ago. When I replaced my CRT with a HDTV I intentionally set it up in a part of the room that has no cable connection available (yes, I could run a cable down the wall but why?) because I'd grown bored with the offerings and the constant commercial...

I feel that way now... and I'm not yet retired... I fully expect to have unwatched product when I die. Well... unless physical media completely goes away. Right now I'm sitting on at least 6 years of 8 hrs viewing per day worth of unopened stuff (moves and TV shows) and the pile grows faster...
