IMHO, S3 forward have been the best seasons as the writers stopped trying to reinvent the Star Trek universe. I treat the first 2 seasons as DC "Elseworlds" type stories (non-canonical fan boy "what if" kind of throw away junk) and it works.

I was talking with my son over the weekend and mentioned that I'd finally seen S1 and S2 in their entirety and, based on comments in this thread, had hoped for better than what I got, especially with S2. While they at least explained why none of the events of those 2 seasons is ever mentioned...

OK... It's official... I very much dislike you guys! ;) I've been following this thread this season but haven't watched, partly because I refuse to pay CBS to watch a single show and partly because of how much I disliked S1. I may do a trial subscription once the season ends just to see for...

Then I'm a different kind of viewer. I'm normally annoyed with such casting if the actor doesn't "fit" the part well. Most of the time I get a "stunt casting" vibe. I also don't pay attention to how "big" an actor may be, just how well they do their job. For me, any "gravity" from a role...

While I've not seen the episode my reaction would be "Oh... stunt casting to get more viewers" with such a "walk on" type appearance of a well-known non-Trek actor, and probably the same reaction with a known Trek actor doing a short walk on. I'd never in a thousand years get the "shorthand"...

Josh's photo really makes me want to get my tapes out and display them again (and I have 2 VHS players in storage - easy to get to - and just enough space to add one to the playback devices stack). I could possibly "sacrifice" a shelving unit that's currently being used for...

Hmmm..... I have those, from a Columbia House subscription, boxed up... Most have only been through a machine once. The only one in a different slip case is "The Empath" as it arrived damaged. I sent it back for replacement but the replacement was never sent. After looking for a copy in the...

^That's a *very* interesting bonus! According to Memory Alpha: They later in the article say: In "That Which Survives" The Enterprise is out of control and speeding up. Scotty's speaking about ejecting the core - where he's working. I don't believe they say "Warp Core" or "Eject the core"...

But he's right. Deep down you know this... In spite of this it's still one of the best shows on "TV".

If I understand correctly, Discovery takes place 10 years before TOS. "The Cage" took place in 2254 TOS was 2266-2269 That puts Discovery after the events of "The Cage" by a couple of years like you thought.

Since you took my comments out of context and edited them to apparently serve your own purpose I feel I need to detail what I said more clearly so you understand. First of all - I've *never* said "It's not real Star Trek!" I *have* said essentially "It's not pre-TOS Star Trek" and I stick to...

The thing is the more hard core fans noticed the issues. I'm not as "hard core" as many but I knew the seasons of the series that were about war. Wars just as serious as the one in S1 of Discovery. To play in this sandbox you must know as much about the universe as do those hard core fans...

In S1 what the creators and writers of Discovery needed was someone familiar with Star Trek and just *why* people like it. Someone who understands it's not all visual effects and battle of the week stuff. It's like all they ever saw was the last 3 Star Trek movies and based everything on those...

I'm pretty much in agreement with Josh over Star Trek Continues. Here's what I said about the series a year ago to the day: At the time I wrote that I thought I'd watch more of the series. I have not. I'd sort of like to but the overall amateurishness of the product keeps me away. As to...

I'm one of a handful of people who, mostly, likes Enterprise. I also like Voyager. Two entries in the franchise that seemingly get the most vitriol flung at them. Like all the series in the franchise they have their issues. I'm also not one who pays much attention to continuity between the...

Well... It looks like Discovery might finally be approaching viewability. Based solely on this trailer, it certainly looks to be superior to S1, but I still don't like the "Burnham" character. I agree. It's not Star Trek (and one reason I disliked the theme song for Enterprise as, IMHO, it...

^Then you have those situations like Jonathan Harris being billed as "Special Guest Star" on every episode of Lost in Space with the implication being that he'd be killed off at at some point... and he was turned into the goof-of-the-week character, surviving until the last episode.

You can see them several times in that 2nd reel outside the times you list - on both the original and remastered effects version. I found it interesting to see the effects played side-by-side. It reinforces that I like the original visual effects better, at least in this episode, and that the...

In my case they lost a viewer. I piggybacked on a coworker's account and she dropped it as her reason for having it went away and she saw no value in the service (no, she's not a Trek viewer of any shape, form, or fashion). I watched more Trek than everything she watched combined and I only...

I couldn't care less about little stuff like dials, controls, etc. It's big stuff like a "new" sister for Spock (never mentioned by anyone until Discovery), Holographic communication (which didn't quite work years later when it was introduced), and everything about the Klingons. The Spore...

I hate to disappoint, but I'm not going anywhere. I truly want to like this series. After all, it is supposed to be Star Trek, my absolute favorite TV series of all time. But, for me, as it's being presented, it is not. It contains the trappings of a Trek series and shares terminology with...

Unfortunately, IMHO, that "creativity" has been absent from the episodes shown at this point. Post Voyager = A not bad series. Pre ST:TOS = A kludge. A good looking kludge, but a kludge nonetheless.

After revealing to Stamets that he’s aware of the ability of the spore drive to take the Discovery to other universes, Lorca then goes to the bridge and enters a control on his command chair. Take a good look at that panel right before that final jump. It says “Lorca override." Lorca then...

Now that I've more fully digested what I saw... Spoiler warning - if you've not seen the episode, don't read. Why did Star Fleet command communicate with Lorca *on the bridge* rather than in his briefing room? That was just awkward and unbelievable. An admiral and commander arguing over the...

They failed. Not only do I feel it wasn't the best episode of the season it's nowhere in the league of quality, plotting, or goodness, that is "Balance of Terror." The producer proves again that he has no idea what makes truly good Star Trek.

Yes, it's how the appliance is not properly attached near her lips. I'd likely have not noticed had they not done so many close ups on her while she was talking. I never watch the "after trek" stuff. They'll have some incredible improvements to pull off if they're going to make the finale...

I finally saw last week's episode. I felt it was rather "meh." I could do without the personal hookup stuff (Burnham and Tyler this time out...) as it feels pointless and tacked on. The apparent resolution of the abduction of the admiral was rather poorly done. It took a long time for...

This was the first episode of ST: D I actually enjoyed. I laughed, in a good way, at the "Ant Man" like suit in which Mudd made his first appearance in the episode. Yes, there are rough areas. Mostly the ending, and how they captured Mudd so easily. When he removed the time device I almost...
