Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Here's a link to that Karloff series without the superfluous code attached that should have the HTF referral attached (the other looks like a referral link but can't tell if it's HTF or someone else). https://www.amazon.com/Colonel-March-Scotland-Yard-DVD/dp/B0CY6C6HVC If that link is...

Gee, Gary... why restrict the wait to *three whole months*!! ;)

How much of that added cost is due to licensing just to use the format? Isn't that licensing set to sunset on 12/1/25?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I, too, have mine in a spreadsheet (considered a database but a spreadsheet is easier to see/browse for this kind of stuff). I track the season(s) watched, title, # seasons in series, format (DVD/BR/R2), year first broadcast, last year broadcast, and genre(s). I have so much I really need to...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

    Here's the full numerical breakdown of what I own by decade: 64 - 1950s 102 - 1960s (6 of these are British series) 89 - 1970s (31 of these are British series) 84 - 1980s (34 of these are British series) 115 - 1990s (36 of these are British series and another 20 are documentaries) 99 - 2000s...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

So... breaking things down, eh? Here's what I own: 123 TV series that had at least 1 BW season (basically ending at 1965, the last year any network broadcast first run in BW - I include Bonanza here as very few people actually saw this one in color for several years and it's truly classic...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I don't necessarily break that down to BW vs. Color but 50s/60s TV vs everything since. And that includes all those great color shows from the late 60s (and a few from the early 70s). I gave up waiting for "good" TV (where *every* night offered tough choices of what to watch with everything...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Me, too... In 2012 we got half the series (16 episodes - now OOP) with a somewhat promise the rest would be coming. They never arrived... Apparently the first half didn't sell well enough to finance the prep for the 2nd half, yet the site pushing the series DVD release is still up...

In case you're not following the O&H threads... Those first 4 seasons are available in the current Target B2G1 sale (Ends 6/18/22 @ midnight PDT). All 4 are pre-orders... https://www.target.com/p/the-adventures-of-ozzie-and-harriet-season-one-dvd-2022/-/A-86072673#lnk=sametab...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

It plays kind of like an early Perry Mason without the same depth (it's a half hour so not a lot of time to add deep detail). While some of the cases are a bit mundane, overall it's a well produced, written, and acted series. It benefits from the simple fact that every story told is based on...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Was just coming to post the same... I managed to snag a "returned from the distributor" copy of the OOP S1 of Public Defender during their last sale (along with S2 which is also now OOP). It's a very good series. It's also on sale right now in a "Hal Roach Studios" sale (now through June...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've seen that mentioned several times and always forget... IIRC at least one of those other TV sets I own has SDH - but it's been too long and I'd have to play them to know for sure. My recollection of their BR movie releases is *none* have SDH or CC - but I'd have to play them as well to be...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

In general, at least for their BR releases, I find Mill Creek product to be quite good. I own several of their BR releases - all of which look and sound better than the DVDs of the same series. They're *not* perfect as they fail to put either CC or SDH on most of their releases and often will...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've never liked Besser or his "Stinky" schtick. I always hated it when one of the Stooge's shorts with him as the 3rd Stooge came on. He was mostly tolerable to me in The Joey Bishop Show as he didn't do that "whiny" act and wasn't on screen that often (or maybe it was lack of that schtick...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Got it! And, YES, I, too, hope whatever it is they release sells very, very, well! There's an excellent chance I'll purchase a copy, no matter what, simply because I like what they've done so far and have purchased at least one series, Public Defender, I'd never heard of but enjoyed. I'll...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I'd say them doing "REAL WELL" is somewhat a given. I've purchase just about all of the classic BW TV series they've released and *all* of them look excellent. Like with VCI serials - I'd not worry about the quality of *any* series they choose to release. Have you seen what they've done with...

Don't hold your breath. Those have been tied up with rights issues for years... MPI would have already released them if they could.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

The only one of that list I'd upgrade to BR is The Bob Newhart Show as it's a favorite and the DVDs, while acceptable, could be improved upon. I *might* upgrade Newhart, another favorite, but recall that the DVDs look mostly pretty good. I own copies of all the others with Rockford Files on...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I *do* have exactly *two* post 70s series I'd purchase on release day should they come out: Frank's Place - with Tim Reid (of WKRP fame) in a series about a professor at Brown University who inherits a New Orleans restaurant and, eventually, drops his education career to go run the restaurant...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I, too, have significantly slowed my purchasing - both TV and movies - as I pretty much have the majority of things I love and would rewatch on a somewhat regular basis. There are around 30 series I'm still actively collecting, most of which I "need" only a season or two to complete. The...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've always felt that first half of I'm Dickens, He's Fenster didn't sell well *because* it was *half* of a rather obscure early 60s TV show. I, somewhat grudgingly, purchased a copy because I really wanted to see it and truly felt that we'd never see that 2nd half. I couldn't see why anyone...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Yep... I, too, am excited for the announcement of just which series. Being an "early 1960s sitcom" means I'm a customer no matter what it is as that's a favorite genre and era.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've been meaning to ask for some time - Do you have any plans to reprint Public Defender S1? I think I'm about to order S2 (a total blind buy) but the completest in me "needs" to have S1...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I grew up watching the Abbott and Costello movies on TV but had never heard of their TV show until that Complete Series on DVD was released. I purchased that set out of curiosity as well as to complete my A&C collection. I recall liking it well enough but not well enough to upgrade to BR...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I'm fully expecting one to be, finally, some type of release for The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. I'd love it if the other two are The Burns and Allen Show and The Jack Benny Show...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I can make that same statement - except change "once or twice" to "a half dozen times or so" and if it's been over a year since I've last seen something I'll still forget lots of "details" unless it's a show/movie I watched repeatedly as a kid.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I only vaguely remember Our Miss Brooks. I started watching TV in (or should say remember shows from) 1959 onward and I think I've seen an episode or two but would have to see some again to really know for sure. I doubt it was syndicated here at all (Mid-South) .
