That is an amazing, imaginative and creative use of Star Trek lore to explain how Discovery could possible be in the TOS era. I applaud you sir. Again, I don't feel the writer's room has the same sense of wonder that the fans do in regards to possibilities. At this point it could all be in a...

Star Trek as a franchise had started to collapse under the weight of it's own continuity even before Enterprise had gone off the air. Writers that were either unaware or unconcerned with what was presented on screen were followed by writers that tried to make sense of it all and "connect the...

I don't think anyone wants to be less intellectual in their writing and story telling. I think it is a matter of experience, or lack of it, before they begin their careers as writers. If you grew up watching TV, went to school and then intern on a writing staff, how much real world experience do...

Discovery just doesn't feel like a ship with an experienced or talented crew that would be out in space. I know that the emphasis is supposed to be on lesser officers who are not the leaders of the ship, but guess what? They shouldn't be making these decisions. That's the flaw. As a junior...

Not according to Captain Lorca. He's says the crew was a bunch of "polite scientists" before the war. I think of Discovery as a research vessel with a unique strategic ability due to the spore drive.

Plenty of poor logic on display here. Beside sending the PTSD poster boy and his criminal girlfriend on yet another strategic mission, why not beam over multiple teams with only one sensor each? Why would you depend on a living being as a means of travel? The ending was a perfect example of its...

The Fall break may be where I tap out on Discovery. I dislike the characters more each week. Even though the writers only feature a handful for us to follow, they still tend to state rather than show their personalities. Eight episodes in and Saru is still explaining his species traits to people...

Again, I think the fans are far more creative and imaginative than the writers of Discovery. Reading all the speculation and potential story threads the fans were reporting is why I broke down and watched. I don't sense any deeper meaning from the title other than the same pretentiousness all...

I'm really not bothered with how this fits into the Star Trek timeline. I'm willing to accept this show on it's own terms. But, as others have pointed out, those terms are sometimes bad. The show has to have it's own logic inside the universe they are creating. I just feel they aren't doing a...

So far I don't have any indication that the writers are nearly as clever as the fans have been so far in speculating. I watched all six episodes yesterday and was more or less disappointed. The clues they give that things are askew are blatant and obvious. I like what could happen within a...

I don't recall anyone being that upset when Data used a "colorful metaphor" in Generations when the ship falls out of orbit. I think the audience I saw it with was very amused by the use. But that was a film. Discovery is rated for adults. Some language should be expected.

David Gerrold had spoken to Gene Roddenberry about doing a story for TNG as an allegory for AIDS called Blood and Fire which featured homosexual characters on the Enterprise. The fact that it wasn't made contributed to his leaving the show. A brief history is on the Wikipedia page...

Kurtzman is either a complete idiot or someone who has never watched TNG, DS9 or STVI. We have seen more of the Klingon home world than Earth on these shows. The Klingons are the most explored race in the history of Star Trek. Politics, religion, rituals and rites all have been covered. Even...

I was about to type these words when I read your post. The Romulans were the honorable and noble race. The Klingons were not trust worthy, even monitoring Kor by camera in Errand Of Mercy. And that is what makes it hard to accept for fans of the earlier shows or movies or whatever is being constantly rebooted. Many of the writers of the 50's and 60's which I admire wrote about what they knew and most importantly, lived thru. Men like Gene Roddenberry, Rod Serling and Gene Coon had first hand experience at humanity at it's worst from WWII. They wrote powerful and moving stories that touched on many of...
