Day first - month second - if there's a year, it's 3rd. That's the rule that's been drummed into us all our lives. Down here (and in Britain) 11/8 is August 11. You can see why so many people in both continents get confused when trying to follow the other. Yes, I guess we should remember that...

Casablanca on 11/8? Fantastic. Just six days after my birthday. Wait though ... do they mean 8/11, which is way too long after for a proper birthday celebration. These strange US dates get so confusing.

For me, Captain Blood is the outstanding Flynn release we're still missing. As for Fred, I want the entire Fred and Ginger series. We have Swing time; give us the rest please,

I have been waiting for Me and My Gal for o so long. It's in my two or three favourite Judy Garland numbers ... possibly number one for her wonderful number 'After You're Gone. At last....

I'm tired of waiting for 'Captain Blood' so this time around I'm not going to even mention how overdue it is.

There is so much beauty running through 'Three Little Words' with those two wonderful dance partners for Fred. Not to mention Debbie Reynold's cameo performance miming to Helen Kane's re-recording of her classic 'I Want to be Loved By You'. Sorry, I did just mention it.... Total bliss, that movie.

Like you, Keith, I love 'Three Little Words'. That, and 'Two Weeks with Love', would make my day any day of the year. And speaking of 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty', I just started this week to re-read my pretty large collection of James Thurber first editions. And am delighted to report that...

Like David, I've been patiently awaiting Captain Blood for too many years to mention. And while I hope the film noir and Western afficianados get their due, I refuse to give up on my hopes for a continued solid ration of old musicals. Here's to a Fred and Ginger box set, and to Two Weeks with...

What a great Christmas gift Three Little Words and the Astaire and Rogers movies would make. Only problem ... we'd have to wait a year.

I also always think of those two movies as a natural double. Maybe because Elizabeth Taylor is in both? Anyway, for me they're forever linked.

Hi Dana Forgive my ignorance, but what was the issue with 'Tarzan Escapes'? It's the only one of the three I haven't seen, and I always thought 'Tarzan and His Mate' was the most heavily censored one, with the swimming scene. But have I got that muddled up?

EVERYONE must get The Last of Sheila. So good in so many ways, including a star turn from James Mason sort of reprising his Humbert Humbert role. Thanks Warner for this star outing.

National Velvet was announced only a few days ago along with some other choice items including The Last of Sheila. I long for Two Weeks with Love, Captains Courageous and Random Harvest amond many others, and am optimistic ... as long as I live long enough. And since I'm definitely going to die...

The Last of Sheila is one of our very favourite movies. I always hesitate about putting the awful DVD on for friends in case they, as I do, find the soundtrack so badly muffled as to make it at times totally incomprehensible. I hope there is some way they can remedy this. But still .. it's one...

Overlooked in all those lists is 'The Desert Song', which hasn't even had a halfway decent DVD release. The Warner Archive DVD was an unviewable travesty, a dark, lifeless image which lacked the visual appeal of the very good VHS. Though purists hate the way the story has been dumbed down so...

Years since I read the Sabatini novel so I can't judge which is most truthful. But his novels were amazing (when read as an 11 or 12 year old) and the Flynn movie is a ripper!

Yes yes please The Last of Sheila. The image quality is ok on the DVD but the muffled soundtrack makes it virtually unplayable for me. Such bad audio. I hope it's not an endemic issue and can be improved for Blu ray release.

I am inspired by the comments about Fred and Lucille in 'This Heart of MIne'. So long since I've seen it! I'll fire up my woodfire space heater, lower the projection cinema screen and pull out the DVD this afternoon! We're so lucky to be in this age of instant video gratification!

My DVD of Blandings was totally fine until, years ago, I lent it to an architect friend to screen to some of his students. I wrote just yesterday in another thread that i couldn't imagine seeing a major quality lift in Annie Get Your Gun if it came to Blu ray as the DVD was so good. I'm sure they're the same excellent transfer. Mine is so old it's in the Snapper case with the cardboard front which I love and everyone else hates. I'm sure they wouldn't have sought to improve that transfer for another DVD edition.

The Annie Get Your Gun DVD (for which we waited so many years) was a brilliant DVD, pretty well up to Blu ray standard. It will take an exceptional transfer to better it significantly. Still, if it came up, I'd get it ... just in hope of something astonishing.
