Somewhere way up thread I linked my Bella slow cooker/crock pot with a removable pot that you put right on the stove to brown the meat before replacing it in the cooker. The only extra cleanup is the wooden spoon that I use to stir/turn the meat while it's browning.
I have a Bella slow cooker (https://www.amazon.com/Programmable-Searing-Cooker-Locking-Chrome/dp/B00KA2KRKG) with a removable insert. You put the insert right on the stove to sear the meat, then replace it and fire up the cooker. It works great, and I don't have to bother with a separate pan for...
This year I did a dry brine of salt, pepper, and garlic powder, with a touch of turmeric, paprika, and cayenne. Spread it around under the skin and it worked quite well. I only decided on it the day before, though -- next year I'll give it an extra day or two.
I also put an ice pack on the...
So my wife bought a turkey. I can:
a) Break out the Mixon pellet smoker
b) Fire up the Weber propane grill
c) Go old-school in the electric oven
Thoughts? I've only ever done c) in the past.
I was offered a relatively inexpensive sous vide cooker through Amazon Vine, but my wife was like "not another kitchen gadget!" Also, there is NO WAY IN HADES that she would eat, or allow our son to eat, food that was cooked in a plastic bag.
Nonsense. Canola oil comes from rapeseed. Because they thought people would be hesitant to buy something called "rapeseed oil." According to wiki, "Can" is for "Canada" and "ola" stands for "oil," because that's where the name was thought up. Canola oil is one of the healthiest cooking oils.
A 5-gallon bucket would be nice to brine a turkey, but no way that fits in my fridge! Gotta figure out another way. My wife suggested using a smaller pot and just turning the turkey halfway through.
Got some time to think about it since we're invited elsewhere tomorrow. :)
Incidentally, that...
My Bella slow cooker lets you take out the pot, put it right on the stove, and sear the meat, then just add the veggies/ sauce and replace it in the cooker. It only takes a few extra minutes, and it seems to make a real difference.
I recently picked up volume 2 of the ATK Slow Cooker book. Was...
Thanksgiving may be easier in the kitchen when you're single, but we haven't had Thanksgiving with relatives in over a decade and I am REALLY LOOKING FORWARD to that streak ending this month!
Usually we'll get together with friends, but that's not the same (and most of our truly close friends...
We buy salmon at Costco regularly. The only thing I don't like is that they generally only carry farm-raised these days. They used to have wild salmon all the time.
