Sounds like the rubber suspension or possibly the paper diaphragm has issues. Try test tones at average listening levels around 75db. Remove the speaker grills to visually observe while testing sub 1 then sub 2 this should clarify things for you. If you're lucky, it may be just loose adhesive...
