Re.Gorky Park KL BD, I agree with you. But as a point of interest, the 1st edition was on a Bd - 25 disc according to a reviewer & noted as being about 18.93 mbps. The reissue is on a BD - 50 for what that's worth.
Chinatown is such a jem & invariably draws me right into the period. It's high on my "short list" as well & it's always followed by "The Two Jakes" (the sequel /16yrs), directed by Jack himself).
I just recently got the KL label 4K of both "The Apartment" & " Some Like It Hot". A couple of stunning discs! Both movies are about reference for B&W video I would say.
After mentioning that quote, I just couldn't leave it alone & watched the movie again this evening. I always remembered it, after a few years passing, as one that didn't really qualify for comfort food but I've reconsidered & for those of you who are would be hopeless romantics as well, it's...
I can give you my personal take on that : My favourite movies aren't comfort food stuff necessarily - inspiring "most long term replays". Most of them move me to an emotional OR thought provoking response. I can fully understand how that kind of thing is foremost in someone's "comfort food"...
It's a pretty good disc but there's one issue I have with it - it doesn't have the "stop / resume" feature but only the "pause only". This is terribly frustrating if I wish to put the viewing on hold once or twice or if I have to resume part of the viewing the next day. Can someone explain why...
Since my paternal grandfather is from Jarpen Sweden, I'll add this one as a must viewing out of respect for your homeland. EDIT: Hardly comfort food but I"ll make an exception in this case. 😉
I have no business showing fascination with Scott Pilgrim since I'm WAY beyond that generational sweet spot you referred to BUT I'll let you in on a secret - Superbad is right there. 😎.
Welcome Carrie. I just noticed it was your first post. What a wonderful initiation - to contribute such a meaningful movie of yours. We'll all see you around, I'm sure.
I love how it spreads the viewer's involvement constantly & with such witt that I have grown to anticipate with pleasure what's coming up. It's impossible for me to over indulge as with most films. The black comedy " Bad Santa" has a very similar effect on me.
I hear you on this Bob. I feel there's a valid reason why music is seen by so many as being the most effective of the artforms in that it can be overlaid on OTHER artforms OR any life experience to do just that (manipulate or enhance emotion). It's like the colour & pattern of clothing - You...
Thank you Thomas. I certainly understand how that one can leave an indelible impression. EDIT: It's like the Hitchcock movie "The Man Who Knew Too Much" with Doris Day & Jimmy Stewart from 1956. Not sure why I am so enthralled with that movie but it certainly smacked me upside the head. (Jimmy's...
I am the same Matt. There are a handful that are exceptional for sure fire entertainment but with ONE movie it's like being in love - there's no logical explanation for your choice - it just does the job. I recall a quote from a movie that (paraphrased) says - It's not how much you love someone...
I have ONE movie that notably gets the most long term replays . It contains so many aspects of well executed entertainment & production (including the standard categories in a review) . A few in my collection get many repeated viewings for a variety of reasons, but most of us have ONE that seems...
