I’m going to need to get some acoustic absorbing panels to tame the ringing in room. Any suggestions?

    Thanks guys!

Hey guys, I just finished building my home theater (documented here) and just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has answered my various questions on this forum. It has been very helpful. Just thought I would leave you with this cheery song from the 1950s...plus ca change as they say -...

Here's some photos of the room itself now it's finished. The soundbar is central and below the screen, obviously. I chose the put the sub below it so it could radiate into the room most easily. I know that low-frequency sound is less directional than mids and highs, but it seems like a good...

Well, the HDFury Arcana arrived and worked straight out of the box. AppleTV in, video out to projector, sound out to Sonos Arc with Atmos. I'm really pleased with the final performance. One of the nice things about the Arcana is that there's no guessing what it's doing. The little OLED screen...

    Psychopasta's Build Thread

Hi Man, I have a separate ATV, Samsung Frame TV and Sonos Arc system and it works just fine with Atmos, so I don't think the concept is wrong. The cable lengths are longer with a projector, true, but they are correctly rated. I have an HDFury Arcana arriving tomorrow so we'll see what that...

I only have one remaining issue with my system. I get no sound on the Sonos system if I set the projector to use eARC. If I use plain old boring ARC, I can get Dolby Digital 5.1 as reported by the Sonos app when I watch Rings of Power. AFAIK this is as good as ARC gets. When I switch the...

OK guys, I fixed it. As part of the work, I removed the OREI from the signal chain, and it never got put back in again. I'm sure it was working perfectly the whole time and wasn't a problem. But I can't be sure of that, as it's no longer part of the system. Two happy accidents got everything...

I thought just the same thing. I'm going to refer to just 'the Sonos' to mean Sonos Arc sound bar :) On reflection, I do not think the Orei is splitting out what I need. I was hoping it would be the equivalent of the eArc output from a TV. I've ordered an HDFury Arcana from Amazon to try out, I...

    Psychopasta's Build Thread

Hey guys I have hit a snag and need help. I have an OREI eARC 4K 60Hz Audio Extractor to split the output from the Apple TV to a projector stream and an soundbar stream. But, the Arc is not recognizing the EARC signal and is therefore not picking up sound. From the Apple TV settings I can use...

It’s ok guys I’m a big boy 👦 I do appreciate that there’s a lot more that I can do (or spend) on the audio front but really I’m happy. I’ve done the whole separates thing to, and it does call to me. @JWC1969 is spot-on with my calculation between spend, quality and usability.

I guess I could put the screen in front...that's a thought. It would reduce the throw of the projector by about 2'. I'll have a play with that once I get back on the project.

Well I can always upgrade later if I find the sound bad. Full report once I get it all installed, which is now looking to be early September as I have missed my window (so to speak) due to my son's illness.

Hey Wardog, you ask some good questions. The only way I can go wider is to knock down the cabinets, and I don't really want to do that. It remains an option for the future, of course. I use a Sonos Arc in the living room and am really pleased with the result. The sound is great, and I like how...

Last update for a day or two. Walls now painted, and I like the color a lot: We decided to paint behind where the screen will go: I guess if we can see any backscatter it will be obviously rectangular shaped and will be easy to fix. The paint has a 'velvet' finish but too me the texture...

Painted behind the screen with a basic primer: Not sure this was a good idea, as I'm concerned that light that gets through the screen onto the wall will reflect and show up as shadow. I guess we'll see. Ceiling is now painted: and a sneak peek at the wall color:

OK, so things haven't gone entirely to plan. Here we are as of the end of this weekend: Holes cut in wood surround for HDMI, ethernet and power for the Arc and Sub. Power comes here: and then down to the equipment. Here 'tis: Getting the ethernet dropped for the rears was much harder than...

The first order of business is the room itself. I'm going to use ethernet rather than wireless for everything. We need to drop ethernet cables, and hide power and HDMI cables, then paint the room and ceiling, install new ceiling and wall lights (with Lutron Caseta control) before we get to the...

The main signal source will be an Apple TV, and I'll also use a Panasonic DP-UB820-K DVD and a computer or XBox. The signal chain looks like so: I'm a bit OCD about wiring and cable management, as you can see. Everything is mounted on a scrap board I had with velcro to keep it all in place...

    Air conditioning in Theater Room

Thanks guys. I'm in San Diego, and the room on on ground level, so it gets as hot as any other room, except it has a door and so gets no convection from the rest of the house. It's not airtight but it won't do to exhaust the hot air. I think a mini-split may be in order....sigh...

    Air conditioning in Theater Room

Hey Peeps Just wondering what those of you with dedicated theater rooms do about air conditioning. My room measures 18' by 13', ceiling's about 10' high. With the door closed, it's pretty close to a sealed box. I have two vents at the rear of the ceiling, either side of the projector mount...
