I don't think that is entirely true. You could still get Atmos over ARC via the Dolby Digital Plus codec (assuming your TV supports that format) because that codec can be streamed via an ARC connection and supports Atmos. What I couldn't do is play uncompressed Atmos or DTS X codecs because of...

Great, I was really hoping that would be the case because I would like to upgrade my TV, but that's not going to be in the cards for at least another year or two so I am glad that I can still enjoy high quality audio without needing to buy a new TV.
