Wow, harsh! (haha)
I hardly think having a few unviewable Blus (of movies I already have on DVD) constitutes not having what I want and shooting myself in the foot. More Region B stuff of interest would have to be coming out to get me to buy another player.
Apologies for continuing to bring up the Lionsgate Blu-ray here, but since it'd been awhile and was on the brain, I decided to watch some tonight. I then realized that I have more Avengers on Blu-ray here than I thought. IMDb shows a 16-episode S5, an 8-episode S6, and a S7 whose premiere was...
Thanks for the info. I guess either I'll be content with the S5 Lionsgate Blu-ray and Emma Peel DVD set, or buy the S4 Studiocanal in case I someday stumble upon a region-free player (I have a few movie Blu-rays that I also presently can't watch).
If I saw this in front of me in a store, I'd...
I have a S5 The Avengers Blu-ray with both Lionsgate and Studiocanal logos on the back cover. Doesn't look like it, but I'll ask anyway: was there ever a similar S4 released along with this? Reason I ask is that the S5 is region-free (my Sony UBP-X800M2 is picky as all hell, but it plays on...
For something more recent, how about the "bowling-alley lawyer" dramedy Ed, which debuted in 2000, and therefore had no excuse ending up in music-rights hell. Other shows of that era managed to get their DVDs out with music intact.
Not sure if enough people would even remember it 20 years down...
A very pleasant surprise. IMO, Shirley Eaton never looked better than she does here. And the movie is actually pretty good. Some of her other films with the same general cast were only worth watching for her. Or maybe I just don't get British comedy of that era...
A minor quibble: considering...
I'll second that! There's been a few Blus that I had no idea were out or being released. For example, his latest update showed Esther Williams' Raw Wind in Eden. I just got a "collector" copy of the DVD, and thought how great this movie would look on Blu. And here it comes...
Plus, The...
If that's going to be the cover, then Criterion needs to be reminded that Priscilla Lane was in this movie. Terrible artwork., IMHO. This was perfect. Why re-invent the wheel?
Thanks, Neal. I lurked here a long time before finally registering. Signing up on an Internet forum at this late date seemed a lot like showing up for a New Year's Eve party the following January 2nd (haha), but I eventually did.
Anyway, while I'm certainly not claiming that DVD is as good as...
Searched for a general Virginian thread and couldn't find one, but this one will do.
I just got the S5 DVD and popped in the Angie Dickinson episode, "Ride To Delphi." I have a few other Virginian season sets, and they generally look miles better than any other Timeless DVDs I have, but this...
I haven't posted much on the forum. I typed the above last night, but backed out because I didn't think it really fit the point of this thread. I'm 100% sure I just clicked off the forum before hitting "post reply." Imagine my surprise just now when I saw that my "post" went through. Good thing...
Barney Miller is all about the characters and the unbelievably sharp writing (sometimes, I'm amazed that the show originated and lived most of its life in the 1970s given the quality of the scripts),
FYI, The Black Knight was released last year by Mill Creek on an Alan Ladd three-movie DVD along with Hell Below Zero and 13 West Street. Haven't watched the last two, but The Black Knight looked better than expected considering it's Mill Creek and all three movies are on one disc.
Beckford, I just watched my Warner Archive Black Gold DVD a couple weeks ago. A small part, yes, but the movie was better for Elyse Knox's presence. It would've been even better had more time been spent on her and less on the horses (haha).
To get sort of back on topic, I suppose Arabian Nights...
As an Elyse Knox fan who has a lot of her work on crappy-sourced DVD-Rs, I Wouldn't Be In Your Shoes is the first Blu-ray I thought of when I saw the thread title. Probably her best role, a very good movie, and a nice print to boot.
KL's newly-released Shakedown is another one. I bought it...
I'm curious about this, too, as I thought I read here that it was coming.
I'd actually never seen Dangerous Assignment until I recently caught episodes on antenna channel VPOD 59.3 at 10/9C. I'm not a huge Brian Donlevy fan, and was surprised by how much I liked the show.
The picture quality...
Robin9, are the two DVDs you're referring to Alpha Video and VCI Entertainment? I have both. The Alpha is terrible (no surprise--haha), but the VCI is a marked improvement, though still nothing spectacular (there is a restoration specialist noted before the film begins).
I usually watch old...
Always up for more Anne Francis on Blu-ray, though I recall not being crazy about this movie. Honey West on Blu-ray would be at the top of my Anne Francis wishlist.
I have this on DVD from Fat-W Video (or whatever they were called), and am glad to hear of a Blu-ray release. Not wild about the extra expense of Flicker Alley's DVD/Blu combos, but so few things of interest to me from the old, old days get released these days that I'll undoubtedly get this.
The Wood Shed does great work, though the CD rack I bought from them a few months ago was treated with something (or stored somewhere) funky. Horrible chemical smell that for days permeated the room where I store the rack.
The DVD rack I ordered from them a few years ago had no such issues...
Yes, me. I think I WOULDN'T BE IN YOUR SHOES is a great little movie. I have a couple copies acquired, um, from sources, but will be buying the Blu-ray as soon as it's available.
Well, THIS is a pleasant surprise I never saw coming. I'm a big Elyse Knox fan. In her relatively short career, she was stuck in a lot of dopey films (most of which I've tracked down and sat through solely to see her work), but I WOULDN'T BE IN YOUR SHOES is an excellent movie that lets her show...
