I got the 1700 hooked up today and it works perfectly for my needs as it won't be my main player. I must say, this little box does the job. Picture is decent and so is the audio. I'll finally be watching Das Boot Season One tonight. :dancing-banana-04:

I bought the inexpensive Sony BDP-S1700 off Ebay just for the occasional disc such as this one. I couldn't see spending a lot for a player I'll probably not use very often. My UD5007 suits my other needs quite well for Blu Ray, DVD, SACD, and DVD-A.

Thanks for the reply. I've found the same info you're describing as to the 220 Electronics version and the Optima remote, etc. I bought a cheap Sony region free and PAL/NTSC converting Blu Ray player that should be here tomorrow. I want to watch Das Boot Season One but it's a region B German...

Is there a way to make my UD5007 region free? Thanks
