Thanks for this information. Its very helpful, especially regarding the bit about bi-amping. I was hoping that it could bi-amp the centre speaker (to use my left over amplifier channel).
Hi @Martin Dew . Can you tell us a bit more about it and your setup? What sort of speaker configuration do you have with it?
Does it allow bi-amping of centre channel?
Can you do an Auro-3D speaker configuration and play Dolby Atmos OK or do you need to pick one speaker configuration over...
What is between your HTPC and your speakers? If its a processor, then does it have a phone remote? What software does your HTPC run? If its something like Jriver then you can control the volume via their phone app (depending on how its configured).
Imagine you could walk outside and get into any car ever made and drive it, and the next day it was a different one. That would be amazing! It never needs to be serviced and you don't need to pay for new tires. You don't need to even wash it.
Wow, I can do it with music and movies.
Perhaps...
The one thing I have learnt is that the current state is not static. tomorrow brings change. I think of it as a centre speaker on the z-axis. Its bound to catch on.
How do you see yourself using a dedicated room? Really interested. I only know one person that had one and it was on his 3rd floor. He said that he hasn't been up there for a few years as after a glass of wine he cant be ar$$ed going up the stairs to listen.
A new house isnt yours until you have done some work on it I rekon. A few holes in the ceiling might be a good thing :) ... But I'm not going to move from this one.. really.
Ahh.. surface mounted speakers. Sound like a nice option. I dont intend to ever sell though as this should be my last house, so I feel like I can sort of go for gold.
Totally understand where you are coming from and I have been there. The new owners weren't happy with holes in ceiling.
I hope the new owners of the house I am selling atm don't mind (find) the big hole in the wall to my office for the thick wad of cables.
I am planning on fairly high ceilings (up to 4m at the highest point). I currently have full size Monitor Audio Gold series speakers Front/Centre/Rear and reading their website they are recommending their C265-IDC in ceiling speakers.
I think it would make sense to stay with something from...
Thanks @JohnRice. So you think in ceiling is better than mounted speakers for the high level speakers or just looks tidier.
My other amps are old Linn LK100's so dont use much power in comparison. The other option is to get an AVR and do hybrid external amps and AVR amps.
The world is quickly changing and collecting personal on-prem libraries of any media is becoming less and less mainstream (and less necessary). With gigabit fibre connections the future has to be streaming services. HDD have a lifespan and so costs will be ongoing with a NAS. Still early days...
100% agree. I watched the video on designing the chip and got a bit hooked on its hype. didnt want to spend crazy money on something that was essentially a hobby side project. It ended up as a bit of a joke, as it came with 1 missing foot and no USB driver for High Resolution audio. I had to...
Does anyone know how the AVR with external amps compares with the same brands Pre/Pro. Are their dacs and better? i.e. where does all that extra money go?
regards heating of amp ... the amps themselves dont actually have overheating issues (well one does a bit but that is a different story), but when they are pooring out 2kW of power continuously with a lot of this as heat, then then the room needs to be big to take this sort of heat load over...
Yep. its the 5 that makes it an odd number. I was hoping not to waste one of my channels, as stereo amps come in pairs :) I was toying with the idea of 6.1.4 with a single rear channel.
I am currently designing a new house to live in and I cant afford a separate listening room, so it will be...
Yes, modern amps with triggers to power on ... that would make a huge difference for my situation anyway, as the amps draw a lot of power on idle. Perhaps another conversation if there is some retrofit device available to do this.
I agree that separates can (and do) last a lifetime and so the...
