the answer gets complicatd, as it’s comparing different codecs and bitrates so not apples to apples. A bad Blu-ray encode can look no better than a DVD. A great blu-ray encode can look as good or better than poor 4k.
That said, I’d say in general a modern 4K stream is leaps and bounds better...
Not at all. It holds up pretty well. Just suggesting the quality might be even higher normally. :) with all subscription streaming services currently reducing bitrates I think iTunes purchases are the only thing currently streaming full quality. (For now anyway)
Looks like a good few of the Bond films on iTunes are no longer 4K now and only HD. I was hoping they’d get an uograde to HDR not a downgrade to HD.
I wonder if it’s something to do with Amazon streaming them in 4K now?
I would double check the back of the TV fits standard wall mounts. There might be a reason why it needs a custom Sony one.? Like maybe that gets it the most flush against the wall.
if your baseline for surround sound is a physical 5.1 speaker system covering a large room then I’m not sure any sound bar would replicate to your expectations. Maybe the Ambeo? Especially as it’s such a large room. Sound bars generally work best when you sit closer to them in the sweet spot so...
Most people wouldn’t see the difference between a TLC and an OLED you just mentioned though. They might even prefer the TLC because it’s brighter.
If you compare an LG and Sony side by side and can’t see the difference in motion or scaling that’s cool. Save a few bucks. But for people it...
It’s degrees of better I guess. It might not be worth $800 over the LG to you, but you’re posting in a home theatre forum so presumably the LG is worth $800 more than an entry level Samsung to you?
In that scenario many people would think paying the extra $800 for an LG would be crazy. It...
I have the A9F which is basically the same TV. For streaming depending on what apps you use you might want to use the ATV over the built in apps. Using Netflix as an example Apple delivers content from different CDN at a substantially higher bitrate than the built in app.
Wider Colour Gamut and HDR are separate things. A 4k movie may be upscaled from a 2K master or downscaled from a 6k one, have WCG, various flavours of HDR or different combinations of all of the above. The only thing you can actually count on is that the actual resolution of a 4K movie is 4K...
Also thankful for the insight. Obviously resolution is only a part of ‘4K’ness along with wider colour gamut and HDR. A lot of reference quality 4K discs are ‘only’ blown up 2K masters.
I know the current iTunes releases aren’t HDR but do you know if they use a wider colour gamut?
Sorry, but I'm sure you've mis-understood. Apple is due to announce their upcoming video streaming service this coming Monday. All the story means is that Netflix has said on record their original Netflix shows won't be a part of it. Which makes sense. Why would they be? The same as Apple's new...
Cheap Charts is respsonsible for my 860 films (321 in 4K) and The majority have been £2.99 or £3.99 a movie.
The bond collection on iTunes I got on sale for £50 and I bought a £50 iTunes voucher on sale for 20% off so Bond worked out at less than £2 a film.
Agreed. Apple has their own CDN for content so as well as staying up when Netflix is down, content usually stream at a noticbly higher bitrate too. I think I saw a screen green recently of Roma streaming at 18mbps and the regular built in app streaming at 12mbps.
Samsung announced yesterday they are stopping making Blu-Ray and Ultra HD Players. Oppo announced similar last year. Physical media is on the way out for better or worse.
I wonder if that means they will bother to do a 4K physical collection at all with the next bond film? I’m happy with my...
I’m guessing you realise you can’t judge anything with a camera phone picture? That’s like listening to a recording I made on my phone so you can hear how good the sound is. :)
That's exactly to do with it. You never had them in 4K. Movies anywhere incase anyone doesn't know is a US only digital locker service that lets you buy a digital film on one service and watch it across all of them. So you buy a film from google play.. and It shows up in your amazon or iTunes...
