no one has referenced the other musical remake that Thomas Kail is supposed to film: OLIVER! somehow it has Ice Cube connected with it as the choice to play Fagin. a hip-hop OLIVER? they still plan to use the Lionel Bart score.

it's just plain fun, much like the Circus itself. sometimes the Oscar goes to the film that gave people the most pleasure--and the one that was gangbusters at the box office. THE SOUND OF MUSIC is such a film.

i also saw the revival of DAMN YANKEES from the 90s, but on its national tour. superb production--one of my all time favorites. Rob Marshall did the great choreography. my Applegate was Jerry Lewis, and he was surprisingly good.

you mention the 6 Oscar nominations. yet it was left out of the categories that were the most obvious and deserving; Art Direction/Set Decoration and Costume Design. also, one of the great omissions in history was that of snubbing Coral Browne. she was fantastic. such great line deliveries.

He didn't fail at all. As splendid and fantastic as the chariot race was--the stages of the cross, Hur's offering of water to the tortured Christ, his transformation, the miracle in the cave and the final reunion all comprised the HUGE emotional payoff of the film.

Anyone notice the blond in the first lobby card? There was a Scandinavian actress first cast as Virinia (before Jean Simmons). That must be her.

Actually they DID muck up the first blu ray of the film. Bad reviews. They had to go back and correct it and rerelease it. Much in the same way that Fox did with PATTON. Still waiting, incidentally for Fox to correct KING AND I. But....it's now Disney. Don't know if the Mickey Mouse has the same...
