I had issues as well, with the single code from the US 4K release. Emailing Warner and WBshop.com got me nowhere!
Best resolution was for me to online chat with Flixster video support. They "reset" my code, and I re-redeemed via myuv.com/redeem and everything worked as expected. Took < 5min :)...
Top Gun on iTunes uses the newest transfer with full grain intact, no DNR! This originates from the transfer done for the 3D version. All 2D Blu-ray versions use a very scrubbed transfer.
Also, Silence of the Lambs is available for 4K streaming via VUDU. Same with The Conjuring 1/2 and the...
I don't expect iTunes to drop the "initial" tag indicating 4K + DV/HDR, as I think they consider that "available". Those tags are even shown in iTunes Store iOS app, for movies you own.
Robert, I think Apple "fixed" that situation where you could actually have a HD + Dolby Vision/HDR on a title. All my titles that did that, reverted back to regular HD, about 3 days ago.
OK, here's my new strategy for 4K codes. And I come at this from the perspective of an Apple TV 4K user, and I prefer that as my 4K streaming platform:
Fox: redeem via iTunes - pushes into iTunes @ 4K no problem. However, only SD/HD in VUDU, although this might get corrected.
Warner Bros...
Ugh. Similar story just happened to me with the Underworld UHD code. I redeemed via MA app, and ported into VUDU as SD
It's also MIA from Sony Pictures, UV and iTunes.
From now only, I'm only going to redeem Sony UHD codes via the Sony Pictures site, and hope VUDU eventually offers...
For a couple of days (now dead), a $2 HDX MD2D convert of a title that iTunes has in 4K (e.g. Dracula 1992 and Pacific Rim) did come over to Apple TV 4K and play back in 1200p + DV/HDR. But they patched that, so now it just plays back as HD. Not sure about other services outside of iTunes, but I...
That's why I never really redeemed codes until last week. I have about 10 unopened UHD titles, I'm still debating on what to do about redeeming the codes.
Here's the issue with Sony, I'm going to use 1984 Ghostbusters UHD code from the 4K disc as an example, as this title is available from...
Mark, your experience matches mine. What other 4K Sony title is available on iTunes (aside from Baby Driver) that we could try to redeem via UHD code?
EDIT: original Ghostbusters is behaving the same as Baby Driver. I redeemed the UHD code for Ghostbusters on the Sony Pictures site, and it only...
^^^ Yes that was the case until about 24 hours ago. Now, you need to either redeem a UHD code, or originally purchased via iTunes in HD to get the 4K version.
Yes I believe it’s still on the AppleTV interface. Just weird that it’s MIA in iTunes.
Yes, I recommend redeeming via iTunes, but I...
If it helps anyone, I was able to link up UK Ultraviolet codes to my MA account. With a VPN, just change the myuv.com site to UK, then you can redeem and link back.
Warner Bros UV overseas codes are a bit trickier, since it wants you to use Flixster, which is normally not available in the US...
Yeah, Baby Driver was 4K via iTunes last week. But I just looked in the iTunes Store, and it's no longer available in 4K.
Correct, Fifth Element has not been available to redeem anywhere in 4K. I am hoping the code I already redeemed will be updated by Sony at some point, then port over to...
This is what I'm most concerned about. Since the release of MA, my primary consumption device at home (for streaming) is becoming the AppleTV 4K. So, I want it/iTunes to always have the best available quality.
^^^Couldn't you have redeemed Baby Driver via the Sony Pictures site? I did that for...
It's no longer a question of "not believing you". We had a fundamental misunderstanding of your descriptions of movies "upgraded" to 4K. Several days ago, the non-UH- code "4K upgrade" scenarios were being actively discussed, and your comments were related to HD iTunes purchased movies being...
For #1: You say many of my films have been upgraded to true 4K, I took this as non-UHD codes being redeemed and upgraded (because that's what everyone was going back and forth about), but you appear to be referencing previously-purchased iTunes content, upgraded to 4K by Apple.
If my assumption...
Well, I'd personally like to know the secret :) Folks at AVSForum, NeoGAF, and other places are reporting the same behavior as I observed/documented. And such behavior seems "as expected". In other words, it always seemed like a bit of a fluke that iTunes would upgrade an HD/HDX code to 4K +...
It would appear, you are the only person (across multiple sites) to report the following:
Non-UHD codes redeemed from Sony, etc. to be transferred/upgraded into iTunes/Apple TV 4K as "real" 4K DV/HDR - not just HD + DV/HDR as verified via "swipe down" method while movie is playing on Apple TV...
Might want to check again, via swipe down method . This change in behavior just went into effect late yesterday, and has impacted (apparently) everyone.
Oh boy, things just got messy!
I had tested this past weekend, and had come to some conclusions regarding iTunes/Apple TV 4K "upgrading" HDX (not UHD) codes redeemed via VUDU to a 4K (really 1200p) DV/HDR version, if Apple also offered the 4K version. Examples I had include Dracula 1992, Baby...
The UV code I got from WB "The Conjuring" Blu-ray wouldn't redeem directly in iTunes. EDIT: code came from a reseller, not sure if it was really from a disc.
Sometimes only in SD! I redeemed Logan and The Martian via FoxRedeem, then selected iTunes as my platform. I got "real" 4K versions in iTunes, but VUDU only reports SD for each.
Since we're on this topic... anyone know of a currently-working way to get UV codes from UK/France to redeem for US...
Just to add another flavor to the mix: I just tried redeeming the UV code (from a Blu-ray disc) for "The Conjuring" which is available in UHD via both iTunes and VUDU. However, a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc doesn't exist of this title. Redeeming via the UV site, I'm prompted to pick VUDU. When it shows...
Apologies for the mix up. Well I guess I did redeem Batman v Superman on The UV site(?) and it gave me real 4K on Apple TV 4K. I have another UV WB title I can redeem tonight to try and confirm.
Unless I’m mixing up Fox and WB, when I go to the WB/redeem site, I input the code then am prompted to choose a redemption platform i.e. iTunes or VUDU, then I’m pushed into iTunes where I get the confirmation.
