I don't know what issues may exist with the hdr on Sony projectors, mine(VPL-VW695ES) didn't seem to exhibit anything other than lovely dr, @ 158". I don't think I've ever seen any uhd like this. I own many, but none of them ever gave me goose pimples head to toe every 5 minutes from the...
Don't know why folks had any issues with these discs. I played all 4 discs on my bedroom player (oppo 203) and my ht player(205) and I didn't have a single issue, and fw is current. They all look beautiful, although I'd rate Spectre beyond that, somewhere in the "Stunning" category.
These great films do look a little rough, but I'm beyond happy to have then on blu. They don't look too awful projected; I've seen better; and worse. I don't have the dvds to compare, but I'd imagine there's gotta be at least some improvement.
One little part of the review confused me; "Was the first film to employ three strip Technicolor, as made famous by the Wizard of Oz". Kind of sounds to me like Wizard of Oz used it first then, yeah?
Well, the gain of projecting a uhd that has near the native resolution of the film it was shot on. How can a 4K scan and subsequent uhd & hdr encoding be a bad thing for any Hitchcock film? As long as the scanning element is decent anyway. I acknowledge some of Hitchcocks films probably need...
No, it didnt overpower the mix,(i shouldn't write when I'm sleepy) just namely the score during the opening credits. There were moments throughout that I felt were too heavy. I would expect as much though from Atmos. Having watched the film through every iteration from vhs copies of copies, to...
I was really surprised by the LFE output. Deeeeep. It added a real heaviness, i think, to the soundtrack that made it a little weird to me, like just... slightly too modern. Otherwise though, wow!
Watched twice last night to soak it all in. The colors are absolutely stunning. I have to say also, the Atmos track was superb. I had my receiver cranked well beyond my usual levels, which imo for this title, should almost be compulsory, and it was quite an experience. I would personally vote...
Mine ended up shipping Saturday, from amazon, and is out for delivery today. This happens every once in a while, they must have known I was pulling my hair out. I've been setting up my "hospital bed" in my theater room all morning so I can watch on my big screen.(i've been confined to my bedroom...
Had myself a screening of the uhd today, followed by my jp blu copy of part 2.(a different and imo, more filmic source than the US version) What a beauty the uhd is. I absolutely love Mr. Unsworth's fog filtered photography, which is finally given a wide enough berth to come through as intended...
Depending on the condition of the film elements, some scanned in 4K would do the trick, following with digital restoration techniques. There's very little that can't be addressed in digital restoration these days. Although in some cases, a full blown photo-chemical restoration would be...
Well, I was hoping for at least N×NW on its 60th this year. That one also at least has a good master. Maybe next year with Psycho. Universal really needs to overhaul their Hitchcock masters though. Most are horrendous.
I own the Italian 4K (no hdr) restoration and although the color-timing is interesting, albeit completely wrong, I like watching it occasionally. Projecting the Synapse blu though, makes me giddy like a little kid. The several years long Synapse restoration finally brought the correct colors to...
Just finished another screening of this wonderful picture, gets me every single time. Stunning! I'll note that I watched the Japanese Sony 2- disc mastered in 4K series set. I still think Mr. Spielberg said it best: " Lawrence of Arabia is a miracle".
Oh man I watched this for the third time today, since receiving it Monday. I saw this on release, several times, as I was actually in the midst of a teenage Doors phase at the time the movie released. In all the years since, I've owned this on vhs, DVD, and the sole Blu-ray release from 08. This...
Watched this today for the first time since upgrading my HT and it's a beauty alright. I indeed thought I was watching a new print. The HDR is pretty impressive as well, especially on such a large screen.
