Do you know if this is just because of the amount of music in the film, or is there a particular hold-out (whether or not you could say who that might be)? So many films have had music complicated rights issues cleared up for dvd release that I'm surprised when there is a title like this one and...
Franco Rossi's 1962 film, "Smog," a curious film about Italian expats experiencing Los Angeles has never had a US media release and only a shoddy Italian dvd release. Might this be one that Kino has considered?
I have somewhere a now-useless VHS of 8 1/2 with the English soundtrack, and while I'll never not prefer the Italian, the fun thing about that English track is hearing the background dialogue in English. I'd enjoy having that as an option.
Sometime in the 1990s, I believe, Book of the Month Club had a separate club for first edition reproductions. The books were exact replicas of the first edition of classic books. I picked up Raintree County back then. The only thing they missed was the tree on the front cover as in the previous...
TCM used to run the film once or twice a year, but it's been over a year now since they last showed it. Given all of the films with complicated soundtrack rights issues that have managed to get settled for dvd/blu-ray, I have trouble believing that's the one issue holding this one back. There...
A review elsewhere has pointed out that, with this being a German disc, the German dialogue is not subtitled in English, which makes perfect sense. I'll hold off for just a bit, in the hopes that US or UK will get a release. The HD master exists, after all...
And I second the recommendation of...
The ID cable channel ran an interesting dramatized documentary about the actual murder on a show called "A Crime to Remember," in an episode titled "Last Night Stand." https://www.investigationdiscovery.com/tv-shows/a-crime-to-remember/full-episodes/last-night-stand . Would make a nice extra.
A couple of years ago, one of our moderators confirmed that this title is now owned by Warners (At Paramount Today: Here is what I found out), which I would expect to be a good thing. Plenty of films with limited appeal and complicated (and packed) soundtracks have managed to find their way into...
Definitely a love-it-or-hate-it film. I loved it, expecting a horror film but, minute by minute, was increasingly surprised by what the film had in store. This is a must-buy for me.
I'm enough of a fan to have bought the laserdisc with the soundtrack cd and the old UK dvd box set that came in a silver (plastic) sphere that I preordered, hoping for a good price dip at Amazon between now and release date. They're not art, but I sure do enjoy them.
I somehow missed this thread when it was active.
Regarding Looking For Mr Goodbar, if Warner owns it now, I'd think we stand a better chance of seeing a release than if had stayed in Paramount's hands. People regularly speculate that music rights have up held a dvd release up but do we know...
