Kino Lorber has gained so mightily in their 4K/UHD output. If WAC, Warner’s or Criterion are not going to jump at Ryan’s Daughter, then maybe Kino Lorber should give some considerations towards a release.
What’s so wrong about posters expressing their joys, in the first place? Nothing. Happiness is a good thing.
Hey, Kino, count me in for a purchase of Paint Your Wagon, too.
Thank you, Matt, for a well balanced review.
Ditto, Ditto, Ditto…and OMG !!!
P.S. Why didn’t AMPAS have Jodie Foster, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese reunite on the stage by jointly opening an envelope? Like, maybe, for the predictable and deserving Wes Anderson win. That would’ve been great, as Mr. Scorsese had made a few short...
Funny thing, but I thought it was perfection, too. Even grabbed the vinyl soundtrack. These are just one of those films where you wonder why it wasn’t bigger. Was it the critics, was it the timing of its release and what else had opened that week, or was it ahead of its time? Too many...
Just a footnote of clarification for the general reader. Piracy is not limited to Blu rays. DVDs have also fallen prey to traffickers.
Moving forward, I am envious of your having been able to experience any of the 70mm presentations of Ryan’s Daughter; inclusive of viewing the coveted Swedish...
The harms done concern the first round of monies spent by the often unaware consumer. It’s also about where the monies have gone to; as well as the damages that have been inflicted.

Between Pardner and Ben Rumson, it always surprised me that Elizabeth never became pregnant. Or did she? It’s never too late. There are still some great opportunities here for a sequel.
FILE UNDER: Paint Your Stroller
No doubts there. The markets are inundated and the consumers are overwhelmed. To what ends shall Amazon be categorized as “knowingly” - in terms of specific disc titles which come out of Spain - may forever remain unknown. But, at least here, and on this thread, we have identified for readers...
I am not an authority towards the answer of John Sparks question, but I have heard that the greatest costs of making a film are the actual magazines and celluloid stocks which are used by the cameraman.
I consider myself lucky, as I never saw Aliens. With no points of reference, I’ll be able to just sit back and enjoy. A rare opportunity.
Love my 4K/UHD of Alien (singular) and now can finally bridge the gap with Aliens (plural); as I am now years later interested in exploring the post and...
For the first time ever, believe it or not, I am going to suggest to everyone that they seek out Ryan’s Daughter on the streaming channels. Far better to do that - while waiting for a true and legal BD - than to be aiding the bootleg traffickers. It is the only option, which is far more...
Bootlegs are not supported on this thread, nor should they be encouraged. Yet, with that said, this bootleg from Spain should serve as yet another reminder to WAC or Warner’s that they need to get their product out there,
Thanks Indy Guy, your heart was in the right place.
Hmmmm, btw Indy...
Well, at least with these three films being discussed, The Greatest Story Ever Told offers a happy medium; as John Wayne and David Lean also took part in the shaping of this film.
So, after theory, Ryan’s Daughter is in the better position of being released on BD before The Alamo and The Greatest Story Ever Told for one clear reason. Ryan’s Daughter is the only property in the possession of Warner’s. Warner’s is not faced with this question of a preservational triage as...
I would rather see The Alamo restored and saved by Robert Harris, before seeing a release of Ryan’s Daughter. I know of it’s history, but have not seen an honest viewing of the film. Save The Alamo, because it’s an important piece of film history for reasons too long to post and already known...
I was referring to “The Secret Sauce” used in this recent 4K/UHD wave of Cameron releases.
Cameron proceeded in the same fashion with Aliens, True Lies and The Abyss as he had with Titanic. Uniformity…as in continuity or consistency of Mr. Cameron’s preparations of how these discs shall look...
What disruptions? The conversations have been on topic. Humor and the ironic are welcome. Yes, it’s a BD rally for Ryan’s Daughter, but a wider scope concerning the David Lean universe is also needed.
Ah-Ha. Uniformity of image across the boards. So that’s what Mr. Cameron had in mind for each and every 4K/UHD, all along. Well, okay then; based upon RAHs reviews en total, the grand design has succeeded.
Now, if only we could get a T2 redux.

Yet Baraka and This is Cinerama have no plot, at all, and both Large Format films have long ago been fortunately distributed on BD.
As it is, projection systems deserve a disc that offers maximized presentational definitions of 1080p or 2,160p, but definitely not that of a paltry lackluster 720p.
56.25% of David Lean’s works were shot in B/W. That’s 9 out of 16 films.
75% of David Lean’s films were shot in either Academy Ratio or 1:85 flat. That’s 12 out of 16 films.
Why should anyone begrudge a master filmmaker from delving into Large Format during the era of the Roadshow? He more...
I would love to see “I Was Happy Here” with as much interests. Large format or Academy ratio, I prefer 4K if it brings forth a finer home image than previously known or available. If not, then give us a BD at the very least.
