Has anyone seen the new British series called VIGIL? It is another superb series that the British do so well .A flawless who-done-it crime series about a murder on a submarine. There are more twists and turns than a roller coaster has. There are only 6 episodes in the series. It...
A very enjoyable and fast moving film. Very over the top but a very engaging story. Pity that they had to (as most Indian films do ) shove musical song and dance sequences in the film that had no relation to the story. A song sung during a brutal torture scene was very out of...
Totally agree with you. Watched it many times since it was first released and never tire of see it. Great book as well. Far superior to Cameron's soap opera which made a lot of money.if nothing else. I understand that Titanic was the third biggest sea tragety as far as the number of...
Watched the whole series-it only takes about 90min. Amusing in parts but Rowan Atkinson has made much better and funnier comedies. Bit silly having 10 min episodes -better to have just one long movie- actually it is a very short movie.
GOLDEN GIRLS - is a true classic comedy series. It never dates. It was probably the only American comedy series that I thought was actually funny. Brilliantly written- the likes of which I have never seen before in American comedy tv series.
For screen size you could not beat the Embassy in Wellington.New Zealand which had the largest screen for 70mm projection in the Southern Hemisphere. Sadly they no longer have 70mm projection and the screen size is smaller than the days of 70mm projection in the late fifties/early sixties...
SIGHT AND SOUND my all time favourite film magazine and the only one that I subscribe to.
My 25 favourite films of all time have been listed elsewhere on HTF so no need to list here again. Only one English speaking film appears on my 10 favourite films seen and that was LAWRENCE OF...
I watched the first two episodes of the new QUEER AS FOLK series. I adored both the original British and later U.S.A. series but this new series (so far) is woeful. A huge disappointment after expecting it to be much better.
One of the characters is in a wheelchair. Did they use a real...
A superb movie. It was released in 1960 as THE MAN WITH THE GREEN CARNATION due to their being another 1960 film called OSCAR WILDE with Robert Morley and him giving his best ever performance.. I consider that film to be the best of the two films on the same subject.
I watched FIRE ISLAND last night and I was completely bored with it. It was the worst gay movie that I have seen in many years. Truly garbage. Who ever wrote the screenplay has a lot to learn about writing a script. The film was completely devoid of a story..One of the very worst films that...
Nothing bizarre about it. It seems to be common in some films film whereby snowflakes fall everywhere and on people but they are never seen actually falling on people. Probably the snowflakes are falling in front of the camera only to give the illusion that it is snowing.
The film was never cut in Australia or New Zealand upon it's original cinema release. It was shown as Hitchcock intended..I understand (correct me if I am wrong) that Australia was the first country to show the film completely uncut on television. That was many decades ago.
I have to disagree with you that films from Visconti and Fellini etc having very little name recognition and that their films had limited distribution outside Europe. Maybe that is the case in the USA but certainly not where I was born ( New Zealand ) and where I now live ( in...
My 5 favourite directors are all dead except for the first on my list.
JANE CAMPION
FEDERICO FELLINI
LUCHINO VISCONTI
BERNARDO BERTOLUCCI
HENRI GEORGES CLOUZOT
Most of other readers lists are all or mostly American. There are no American directors still living that impress me but I...
Stayed up until 2am this morning and watched the first 4 (out of 10) episodes. Up there with the very best series that I seen so far this year . If you love a story of Hollywood in the seventies then you will love this show. I couldn't fault anything in THE OFFER. Brilliant in every...
Having Baz Luhrmann as the director is enough to put me off seeing it. I have never been a fan of Baz as a director. His woeful, tedious and overlong flop AUSTRALIA will be re - issued as a mini series with unseen material added to it. Heaven forbid.
I have never heard of any of these shows other than THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA which I could only watch the first episode as I never liked it. I may watch the second episode and see if I like it better.
