Great news. Sad state of motion pictures that this is even a thing though. I understand the Signature Collection bluray has become a hot commodity as of late.
Per Dawn of the Discs the titles being guessed at are....
Welcome to the Dollhouse
Safe
Run Lola Run
Orlando
Amour
Searching for Sugar Man
Pollock
Dogtown and Z boys
Call Me by Your Name
@Todd Erwin - you're not the only one that failed to connect with Licorice Pizza. My anticipation was very high, but it left me cold (very similar to how I felt about Last Night in Soho). I described the film to others as "wandering" and "unfocused." I thought The Phantom Thread was an absolute...
I understand the arguments on grain, color, and FRAMING (as some of you have argued vs the word cropping), but given Criterion's pedigree - (a label meant for true film connoisseurs last time I checked), wouldn't you want to mirror the look of the original prints/negatives? Surely there exists...
This is disappointing to say the least - given Disney's ownership over FOX, I would be saddened if this is indeed the last stop for this picture (at least in physical media). Criterion really seems to be missing the mark as of late - take a look at the errors authored into their 4K releases, for...
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=343639 - Shout Factory Insider has advised that there was indeed a mistake and you can submit for a replacement.
Since the tail end of 2020...I've now had a replacement issued for Brotherhood of the Wolf (subtitles were marred with errors), the Friday...
One of the best - the dialogue is incredibly well written, great score, and a helluva ensemble of characters. The Warners Bluray is a sight to behold...after all these years, I can finally get rid of my DVD.
Thank you for sharing this - boy oh boy it'd be nice to get a UHD of Goldeneye that looks comparable to this - literally just rewatched the bluray and it is disappointing to say the least. DNR is literally one of the worst things to ever happen in home cinema.
Now that Kino is on the 4K bandwagon (we already have The Good, The Bad, The Ugly...which I still think needs more time in the "oven," and we're getting the other two "Dollars" westerns next year), I would love to see 4K editions of Once Upon a Time in the West, Silverado, Duck You Sucker! (aka...
Out of curiosity has anyone compared the Studio Canal disc to the SCREAM! Disc? I own the Studio Canal disc and was quite happy with the PQ/SQ - I did not realize the SCREAM! Disc contained ATMOS until Mr. Harris' review. Not a great film, but Carpenter in 4K is magic. Please bring on Big...
I had the misfortune of having 3 sets now with defective films. All 3 sets contained defective Vertigo - approx 48 minutes into the film where Jimmy Stewart is speaking with Kim Novak by the fireplace, either extreme pixelation & macro blocking for 30 seconds to a minute, and one disc I had just...
Do we know yet if these are the same transfers from SHOUT! and if FISTS of FURY will finally include the uncut "saw" scenes in the ice house? If memory serves, it was missing from the SHOUT! transfer.
Seems counter-intuitive to tout a new 4K Restoration and place that on a single BD alongside a boat load of special features. Beautiful transfer aside, if it has poor compression, I'm failing to see what the point is.
Is it absolutely confirmed that the film, plus the special features will be on a single BD 50? If so, this seems to be a bit of a waste, no? Especially considering the film runs 170 odd minutes.
Just finished STREET PEOPLE, WINTER KILLS, and CHARLEY VARRICK - very impressive transfers, especially the latter two. I haven't seen STREET PEOPLE since VHS format, WINTER KILLS obliterates the previous DVD incarnation and CHARLEY VARRICK is a stunningly beautiful transfer.
For what it's worth - I waited with bated breath till the recent release of THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS popped up for pre-order. The second I saw it was live, I pre-ordered both it and FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE. Release day came and went, and I received the message - will ship between November and...
Shockingly good show. Given it's the same team behind AMC's neutered botch-job that is PREACHER, I'm pleasantly surprised. THE BOYS is a lot of fun, aided by some incredibly well written characters, acting, and AMAZON's ability to include some of the more "rough" themes from the graphic novels...
@Kino Lorber Insider any chance of The Adventurers (1970) - my understanding is that this was owned by Avco Embassy and could possibly be under the umbrella of Studio Canal (same with Nevada Smith and The Carpetbaggers). The other title is Endangered Species (1982)?
I'll be very interested to get my hands on this one - I noticed in some screen cap comparisons that the new 4K leans away from the "blues" of the bluray variant and more towards black. It also appears that the framing is different as well...shame there's no ATMOS track though.
Thank you for the review - this is a long awaited title! Shame that it isn't perfect, but I've been very happy with the Warner Archive releases - now, bring on THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS!
No Question here - I knew seconds into Criterion's new disc that we were in for a treat. I couldn't be happier that Criterion got a hold of Shampoo - just as excellent and hard to watch as the first time I saw it. Essential.
