Man, I haven't been here in ages.....
Probably a "better late than never" response, but I can confirm "Remember" by John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band appears on my original 1/31/1981 CBS recording of "Venus And The Man".
Jaime reported earlier in the thread that he has a copy of a CBS re-broadcast of "The Contest...", and it is the more familiar Schiavelli version of the episode. Presumably it was from a summer re-run.
For anyone else who wants to give it a shot, here is the last unidentified piece of music used in the show we're trying to figure out:

All I know is it predates November, 1979, and music recognition software is no help at all.
From the info we've gotten from Shout! (and the little evidence we've gathered), technically it seems the version of "The Contest....." on the Shout! set is the correct one historically speaking (as it was apparently the version that aired originally on CBS during it's first run). Can't really...
A package just arrived today....
.......and with it, another mystery solved!
Up And Down The Dial:
Albert Collins: Frosty
Jerry Lee Lewis: Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On
Tim Reid: Now (selection from Tim Reid’s Jazz/Poetry album “As I Feel It”)
Now we just need to I.D. that...
Here's the info we have:
We know the familiar Vincent Schiavelli version aired on CBS as a re-run (Jaime mentioned earlier in the thread that he has a copy of that airing).
TV Guide.com lists "John Wheeler" as a guest on the episode (presumably from the print version of the guide).
One member...
Thanks for checking these out! I'm going to have to get to the Paley Center myself someday...Sounds like the Paley Center has some edited episodes. Even worse, it seems they may have been sourced from the Fox DVD.Your description of "The Contest..." matches the Fox S1 DVD version, which includes...
Perhaps they could also throw in the alternate "Bah Humbug" on a future Season 3 set.
Now, if "Contest" and Bah Humbug" originally aired on CBS as they are presented in the box set, there's not really a compelling reason for Shout! to change up the single season sets.
We don't really have a...
Back in the 90's when the syndication package that airs now was created, they must have come to some agreement. Perhaps because the episode would presumably run only a couple of times a year, that made the inclusion of the song affordable.
As for streaming rights...that's yet another issue...
Fox may have been able to secure broadcast rights to the Pink Floyd song back when the last syndication package was put together, which is of course is different than securing home video rights.
It also contained 2 music replacements:
Joe Cocker's "Fun Time" and CCR's "It Came Out Of The Sky" were both replaced with generic music. No dialog was affected. Both of those are on the Shout! DVD.
Great catch! Originally it was Ry Cooder's "Get Away", from the soundtrack to "Performance" (you can see the album cover in the scene). That album also included Randy Newman's "Gone Dead Train" which was also replaced on the DVD with a cover version.
Baby, It’s Cold Inside:
Pete Townsend...
The scene is missing on the 1992 VHS release of the episode (on "KRP's Craziest Stunts") as well. (Van Halen was also removed).
Quite sure it only exists on the original broadcast.
No one really knows why. It could have been an edit for time when the episode was re-run on CBS, or it could have...
Thanks for your help in getting this all documented as well!
On a related note, it was interesting to watch an episode of a 70's TV show as it originally aired, especially noting how short the commercial breaks seemed (as compared to today).
"Oh...the show's back on already?"
Another mystery solved!
Venus And The Man:
Candi Staton: Looking For Love
John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: Remember
Della Reese: Bein’ Green
I managed to secure a copy of "Venus And The Man", recorded 1/31/1981 from CBS (This version has the "welcome back hostages" message at the beginning as...
If it's still the same cut that's been airing since the 90's (as the other AntennaTV episodes have been), "Dogs" will be there, but Joe Cocker and CCR will be gone.
According to this article, Shout! spent "toward a million" for the WKRP music rights:
http://www.vox.com/2014/11/3/7145231/shows-not-on-dvd-music-rights-wonder-years-wkrp
They're gonna have to move quite a few units to get that back....
Looks like I've found one more "musical mystery"....
From "Venus And The Man"
In the scene in Andy's office (following Herb's exchange with Venus and Arnold), there is some music playing on the speaker which Andy turns down.
It sounds like it may be replacement music on the DVD and on Jaime's...
I think we may have a winner for the missing "Carlson For President" track! (This is the one that airs just before the campaign ad).
So close...but no cigar. Same chord, but the guitar is a little different.
Yes. It's there.
Johnny Comes Back:
Soundtastics: Nowhere Band
Linda Ronstadt: Ooh Baby Baby
Van Morrison: Into The Mystic
Styx: Blue Collar Man
Chicago: Alive Again
Derek & The Dominos: Layla
