What's your Internet Speed and how much speed matters?

I have a small local ISP and a municipal shared fiber network here - my ISP does have bandwidth caps per tier for normal residential service but I've been using 1 gig up/down for several years and I never reached the 1.2 TB per month throttle threshold. They offer 10 Gbit symmetric service but...

    Subwoofer(s) Upgrade Advice

At that price and with no stated space constraints, I can highly recommend a pair of Hsu VTF-15h mk2 subs. They are tremendous value, hit very hard and go quite low. Granted I'm biased as that's what I'm currently running, but in all fairness I had the first one for about 7 years before adding...

Connecting Wireless Headphones to Old TV? (Help)

ah good catch, you're absolutely right - I must have not looked at the picture. In that case, he'll need something that can take the audio out signal either from the optical jack or the pair of RCA outputs, then transmit it over bluetooth.

    Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Just popping in to say that this was thus far the best comic book movie I've ever seen - by a huge margin. It made me feel like I was reliving the last 3 decades somehow all at once and while not perfect - clearly knocked it out of the park. I'll still keep dreaming for a day when Marvel has...

Connecting Wireless Headphones to Old TV? (Help)

the audio out jack for PC is what you would use. It's a typical headphone 3.5mm stereo mini jack. You then buy a cheap 3.5mm stereo mini jack bluetooth adapter and plug that into the TV - then sync your headphones to it.

    Dune (2021)

Do I need to watch the older movie or read the books to understand this movie? I watched it once so far but didn't gather a lot of what was going on or who various characters/groups were with zero background.

Netflix Cowboy Bebop - Live Action Netflix Series

that's true - as is often the case many of the 'news' articles first announcing Eden's casting focused more on their desired pronoun use and a 'hope' that Ed would be changed to a gender-ambiguous character. Not addressing any of the socio-political topics, but I do get annoyed when Hollywood...

    Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)

makes me wonder if you saw a different film with the same title  I don't remember her jokes at all, but thought that the friend and Paul Rudd's character were by far the most funny. The whole film felt like a love letter to the original.

Netflix Cowboy Bebop - Live Action Netflix Series

I grew up with the anime so this has been very iffy for me. To be upfront, most of the casting choices didn't seem to fit the source material and despite news outlets claiming that disappointment with Daniella Pineda were over her not showing enough skin - that wasn't exactly the issue from my...

your thoughts about my next equipment purchases please

Definitely need a subwoofer. On a ~ $1000 budget for just that I might see what you have locally used - my own experience with home theater stuff over the last 25ish years has been that magazine recommendations are not a good metric. They often mislead folks to think that a 'large' subwoofer is...

    Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)

I saw this alone in a mostly empty theater Sunday afternoon. As a kid who grew up watching the originals on VHS I was concerned that this sequel might be butchering things. To be fair, I never watched the 2016 'reboot' because the trailer looked terrible by my tastes. As for Afterlife... as...

    Mortal Kombat (2021)

that's what I was afraid of. the intro was pretty cool, then the rest (I still have about 20 mins remaining) was terrible. I guess I'll just suffer another 20 minutes to finish it off. Glutton for punishment or something...

    Mortal Kombat (2021)

I was about to post asking if I should try to force myself to finish watching this - streamed part of it 2 nights ago, another 30 mins or so last night but it's been painful. Most likely looking at this from a nostalgia lens of the 1995 movie but I actually still like that original movie a lot...

Poor audio connecting my Panasonic UB420p to my old Onkyo TX-SR705. Manual doesn't cover my set up

Alec, this is the back of your AVR - the circled in red part are the pre-outs (which is what you can connect to an external amplifier) - it only has 7.1 outputs: If you want to add 4 Atmos channels, you will need at least a newer AVR which has 11 channel processing (and thus 12 pre-outs...

    Eternals (2021)

Yeah that's kind of what I was referring to earlier about hearing that certain 'agendas' were being pushed. I have no forum opinion on socio-political topics but as an unrelated viewer, that particular portrayal didn't come off as too overtly forced which was a good thing.

Poor audio connecting my Panasonic UB420p to my old Onkyo TX-SR705. Manual doesn't cover my set up

If you have 7.1 right now and want to add 4 Atmos ceiling speakers 7 + 4 will be 11 ch. What I did to upgrade from 7 to 11 channels was get a refurb Yamaha RX-A3080 from A4L, and added a separate 5 channel power amp to drive the main 5 channels - leaving the AVR to drive the 4 Atmos speakers...

    Eternals (2021)

Well I saw it tonight. As leery as I was about the 'agenda pushing' that was barely even a thing and the movie as a whole was fine. I can agree with others that it didn't feel like an MCU movie, but I'm undecided on whether or not that's a good thing. Shang Chi felt like a kung fu version of...

    Home Theater -Back to Front...

I think he's asking if he can have the electronics in the rear, rather than how most of us do it with the AVR, blu ray player etc in front where the screen/tv is. If that's the case, I would say he should be just fine. Since he's going to use a projector, the only wiring he'd need to run up...

    Video Game Pet Peeves

haha I get where you're coming from, but at the same time it's a quick and easy way to describe a game with several common design elements (exploration with backtracking and a map to track, item upgrades, etc). We could have come up with a non-game-title word but ah well, too late now I suppose...

Normal guy that appreciates good sound

welcome and no need to apologize at all Joey! One thing i've noticed here is we have folks from both ends of the home theater spectrum (soundbar folks who just want to make sure they're getting the best experience they can, to folks with multi tens of thousands of dollars dedicated home theater...

    Eternals (2021)

Jeff if someone enjoyed Black Widow how might you expect them to take Eternals? I've already got tickets for Sunday but just curious for opinions. For reference, I actually have enjoyed every MCU movie though Iron Man 3 is the single film so far that I haven't wanted to rewatch often. I thought...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

That's fair, and pretty common from other posts in this thread. In my case, I like watching a movie with friends or family but being in a theater with a bunch of strangers doesn't really enhance the experience for me at all - and usually detracts from it (people talking during dialogue, kids...

    Eternals (2021)

I haven't read any reviews of this but am always hopeful with each MCU film that whatever it is I can just sit down and enjoy a fun comic book movie for ~ 2 hours. Hopefully they don't disappoint but I'll find out this coming Sunday afternoon and report back - though admittedly I'm going into...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

I know this wasn't a response to me, but just curious to see where we're all at on this specific angle. in my case I'm probably 80% physical, 20% streaming 0% digital. I stream things to check them out but haven't wanted to 'buy' a digital copy of anything due to the aforementioned concerns...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

I'm nearing that boat. 4K HDR or bust! I've had to accept a few titles in plebian 1080p but am holding out for others to receive a proper 4k HDR reissue.
