I feel cheated that the master used on the DVD release of 14 years ago used a master of Calling Dr. Death that had the Inner Sanctum floating head in synch and the Blu ray version does not- how can this be missed by the folks who mastered this? really not acceptable.
I started watching the set and there is also a problem with Calling Dr. Death. The Intro section with the floating head in the Inner Sanctum is out of synch picture and sound. I put in the older Universal DVD set and the audio and picture were in perfect synch for the intro.
Hi I bought the set from Shout and got it on Monday and watched Horror Island- the movie and Peggy Moran look great- big improvement on the DVD. It does full just to Elwood Bredell's photography- great blacks and shadows- very moody- fantastic looking transfer- just watch the unrestored trailer...
They dropped the limit after i placed my order- Go figure! so I ended up paying shipping when I would have gladly bought more -even when you win with these folks you lose!
Great Line up for Forbidden Hollywood Vol 10-
Product Notes
Remember to knock five times, as the Cinema Speakeasy is open again with a quintet of controversial pre-Code classics. Lionel Barrymore stars as a DA who commits the perfect crime in W.S. Van Dyke's Guilty Hands, costarring Kay...
Universal is putting out some Vault collections including a Marlene Dietrich set that will include Angel and Desire - the collection is listed at 14.98 on Amazon-Glad I held off on buying the singles.
Chicago deadline or Great Gatsby would have been great choices for inclusion from the start. The 3 films we are getting are all good though.
More troubling is that Egg and I was cancelled due to poor advance orders-not surprised at that as I have it in both the Kettle collection and the...
If they do they will get a big order from me. But I'm not very optimistic based on the pre black friday offer of 15% off new releases offer. Or maybe like the last 5 for 50 they will set a limit on how many titles can be ordered.
I got this email from TCM-
Thank you for choosing the TCM Store. We just received notification that there was a production issue with the “Alan Ladd: The 1940s Collection DVD”.
Unfortunately, there was one title removed, “And Now Tomorrow“, due to quality issues, however your order...
Up for pre order on TCM with a 12/1 release date
Features Lucky Jordan, And Now Tomorrow, Two Years Before The Mast and OSS,
Nice to see this program is back up and running with 3 new releases . Hopefully the Columbia series will get going again as well.
I ordered the disc from Diabolik (thanks for the tip-saved 17 bucks) I can recommend this release with no hesitation -picture looks and sounds great. The only warning I can give is that it does not have a menu just plays as soon as your player has read it. but still a great release.
I'm also glad to see the Novarro's but they are mainly minor films so in a perfect economical world they would be grouped as a set like the Robert Montgomery films were a few years back. Still happy to have them especially Daybreak.
Anyone else buy this? I need more assurance it's worth $50 before I commit to purchase. I would have liked cheaper or even free shipping options on this. But such a terrific movie!
As far as breaking up the sets into singles (Eddie Cantor, Maisie series) I would prefer with releases like the Beery-Main series and the upcoming Gilbert titles that they just make them value priced sets from the start.
I've been ordering the Columbia titles from ImportCDs. I got these 2 new ones from a combined total of 31.92 which includes shipping and tax. You might have a long wait for Amazon to discount these titles. I know I'm waiting on some of the Fox and Universal titles to have price reductions at...
I watched the OLive Bluray of Ramrod this weekend. I was surprised how bad a shape the source used for this was-lots of scratches and dirt on the print. Wasn't there a UCLA restoration on this title? if yes I wonder why it was not used. Terrific movie that deserves better than this.
i like Johnny Angel. Nice studio creation of foggy New Orleans. Femme fatale role for Claire Trevor nice weakling turn by Marvin Miller also Hoagy Carmichael and Margaret Wycherly. Harry Wild is the DP.
Riff Raff has a terrific opening.
