Thanks! And thank you also for this thread: your impressions of these various subs are invaluable, please keep up the great work, and I look forward to your further comments.
How much of an effect do you think the v3601's high efficiency has to do with its performance? Can't seem to find anything but praise for its subwooferage.
All of us must die, it's simply a question of when. An important second question is being ready for what comes next. I know many are very uncertain about that, but there verifiable assurances about what comes next and how to prepare. Please PM if you're interested in hearing more.
Spent the last couple of hours dialing the Mariana Max in. Finally grew tired of wiring, plugging and test tones and ran a clip from "Interstellar." The room vibrated, my chair vibrated, but I wanted more, so I brought the volume up to the 2 o'clock position and there it was: cavernous...
Finally got the Monster moved into the theater room, placed it in the Lt front corner, fired it up and watch my screen shake! I'm going to need to try mid wall and see if that works better.
Been following those who bought into the new Samsung UHD blu Ray player and it's not pretty. Samsung shouldn't have released it until they got the bugs worked out. It doesn't even work correctly with Samsung displays, while most of the OLED customers seem to be generally satisfied, although...
My new Mariana 24" should be arriving this week. It will have the upgraded driver, and I'm fortunate to be the first to have it. I will post impressions as soon as possible.
When I learned most movies are only 2k and have to be upscaled to 4K, it killed the upgrade bug for me. If my TV were to fail, that would be a different situation, but for now, 1080p is sufficient.
You make some good points here. If users have a system they're happy with, they should stick with it until the initial issues are resolved (and there are issues, even with the new DTS format), prices come down, and more software is available. For those who have the desire and the means, the main...
I also have low ceilings and have investigated this issue. It can be made to work with low ceilings PROVIDED a ceiling speaker with as broad dispersions characteristics as possible is chosen and attention is paid to setting them up at a 45 degree angle from the listening position (measure the...
I'd also recommend adding at least on subwoofer. Dayton audio is about the least expensive sub you can get that will give you decent performance. Rythmik, SVS and Hsu all make great subs as well, but are much pricier. Best of luck!
I'm told by David Gage from Deep Sea Sound that there is a more robust 24" driver now available that weighs an incredible 145 lbs. I put my order in for one of these bad boys. Should be a low frequency monster without significant limits.
I ended up very quickly selling my Rythmik's and I'm in the process of ordering a Deep Sea Sound Mariana 24. Really excited about experiencing first hand what these bad boys are capable of!
I read an interesting article recently in Audioholics surveying state of the art subwoofers. One really stood out: it has a 24" driver, is powered by a 4,000 watt amplifier, and is flat to 14 HZ. It's not cheap at $4000, but considering its capabilities, a relative bargain. After reading user...
Thanks for reading, but I did not intend to suggest that the sub crawl is any type of secret. just one of the steps I took to arrive at a good place ( using miniDSP is likely a better way to do this). The main ingredient for me was the addition and proper setup of the mid bass speakers. I was...
True, but my 15" can now be dedicated to the lowest registers and the FMB 8's can now handle the mid bass from an optimal position. I have tried the boost you describe in the past, but it didn't give me he results I'm experiencing now.
I have had subwoofers for years, but have never been completely satisfied with their sound. I read a post by Brian Ding, founder of Rythmik and a PhD in electrical engineering some time ago that said the most impactful bass is not in the lowest registers, but in the 60-70 HZ zone. I decided to...
This does sound decent. If the Epson is an LCD projector, it can be prone to convergence issues, but many people still are very happy with them. After quite a bit of research, I went with DLP, specifically Optoma, where I was able to buy refurbished from their website at a great price. 4k is...
I would stick with a smaller version of your main speakers and simply increase their level to match the other speakers, this can be done automatically in your receiver or with a SPL meter. It would be best if your surrounds can go down to at least 80 hz to avoid any "holes" in the frequency...
You could see if anyone else is listing it on eBay and for how much. Craigslist is another option ( and a local buyer would solve shipping costs). If you can't determine its value, you could simply list it for auction on eBay, but I would have the buyer pay for shipping. The reality is, it's...
