Like many I saw the film MOBY DICK as a boy and found it awe-inspiring, in many ways a "traumatic" experience, like seeing THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD or JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, two other traumatic experiences. And seeing it later as an adult I still find it an excellent, beautiful film.

Hello Bruce:Well, I'm no spring chicken and memory does play tricks from time to time, but not in this instance. Someone at MGM/Warner, for some reason, did indeed tamper with the music mix sometime after the the 1980s VHS release. In fact, I just found, and played, an actual recording of the...
Nelson:
The Crescendo CD you bought is the 1980s re-recording I referred to. Mr Garcia was called in to do a new recording of his score for CD. These were not the original music tracks but a brand new recording with a new orchestra. But the end piece of music we are taking about was done...
Hello Nelson:
Interesting note. It brings up the question as to when the re-mix was done. If you are saying that the laser and the 2000 dvd are identical then the re-mix must have been done earlier than even I thought.
Regardless, it certainly WAS changed, particularly in that end section...
I have not seen the laserdisc version, unfortunately.
The film, from 1960 until its recent dvd incarnation, was left untouched and those last, lovely moments of the score which begin when Alan Young says, "He has all the time in the world", were altered. It is difficult to describe what they...
I hope, probably in vain, that they will fix the finale music that they goofed up on the dvd of a couple of years ago. They "re-mixed" the end music (for reasons no one on earth knows) and, for me at least, ruined the beautiful Russel Garcia closing piece that was so touching. They used his...
Neil makes a good point vis-a-vis black and white. I remember reading a comment on the internet from someone who will watch some classic films but - to use his words - will "draw the line at black and white". Imagine. I wonder what the poor man would do if ever he were in an art gallery and...
Are there any release updates for 77 SUNSET STRIP?
I've seen a few episodes recently and they are well-written, well-plotted, well-directed and well-acted and I see no logical reason why modern audiences wouldn't find them extremely entertaining.
My set just arrived from Warner - but how can I tell if it was pressed or mod? The quality looks decent but how does one tell for sure? Apologies to all if this is a dumb question.
Many thanks.
