Philips Introduces 4k TV and and HDR Blu-ray

Interesting news - been hoping for a release date for the next one up in the range the 65PUS9600. They have been talking about it since the Berlin IFA back in September and it looks to have the range topping options that should please enthusiasts. It was delayed until the HDR standards were...

International The Day the Earth Caught Fire

One of my all-time favourites is coming to Blu Ray on the 20th November and this one has a 4k restoration by the British Film Institute along with a fair number of extras. BFI releases tend to be without region coding but best to check this first. The Day the Earth Caught Fire - Amazon Look...

What possibly is the best way to play Blu-ray on Mac?

And if you are quick Mac Zot has Leawo Blu-Ray player for Mac for just $1 (98% off) but this runs out in 22 hours time! For $1 I thought I would give it a go (would normally rip my Blu Ray's to mkv).

    Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Blu-ray December 10th, 2013

Hi, I now have both and the USA release is indeed 7.1HDMA. I will do a full update later once i have compared fully but, for now, the picture quality looks exactly the same between the two releases (as does the extras) but the sound is different in terms of format. To me it looks like the extra...

    Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Blu-ray December 10th, 2013

Yes this is the case - wonder if they have squeezed things down a little to fit on to one-disc? Running the track through MediaInfo and it shows the following for the two English tracks:

    Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Blu-ray December 10th, 2013

The scan shows the British film board with a 'U' rating meaning 'Universal - suitable for all' and it is the most family friendly classification. The 'G' or 'Fit for viewing by persons Generally' is from the Irish film classification service as the Blu Ray is also marketed and sold in Ireland...

    Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Blu-ray December 10th, 2013

Quite amazed by how many extras are on this - some great footage from the premiere plus 2 x almost 1 hour long special features and loads more. A few look new to the Blu Ray as they are shot in HD. Some covering the stage musical (looks recent). Just wish the UK release had the 7.1 track but...

Hi, It has this at the start with a fanfare of sorts.

    Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Blu-ray December 10th, 2013

UK release is out today - I have a copy and it seems to have most of the USA listed bonus features but certainly doesn't have the 7.1 audio. Quite surprised by this - 5.1 DTS-HD audio only. I have attached a scan of the rear cover below. Picture quality is OK'ish. Expected a lot more perhaps...

    Oliver! - Where?

It does have chapter stops but no scene selection menu at all - all very basic. The TT release looks like it will be addressing this point very nicely with a re-authored release.

    Oliver! - Where?

Yes I will be looking at the TT release but don't want the cost of a 3rd version unless there are transfer improvements. Also be nice to see some decent chapter marks too so you can jump to the key scenes.

    Oliver! - Where?

For those wondering the Uk release out today is an exact copy of the German disc (minus the german language bits on the artwork). Put it in my player and it even asked if I wish to resume where I left off (with the german version).
