Sony STR-DN1030 - one of the HDMI inputs designed for better sound quality?

Yes, David, it makes perfect sense... I'm afraid my search isn't really very "narrow". I'm not only looking at the 1030, but also Pioneer 1022, 1122, 1222, Onkyo 616, 717, and Yahama 573, 673. There are some really good deals out there right now both on Amazon and Newegg. All these receivers are...

Sony STR-DN1030 - one of the HDMI inputs designed for better sound quality?

The 1030 has been one of my leading contenders in my search for a new receiver, but now I'm not so sure. 90% of my Audio/Video watching is from DirecTV. Maybe 10% from Blue Ray/DVD. When I'm watching an HD movie on DirecTV, I would expect to get the same quality as DVD. This concerns me as well...

Thank you people... Exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for. Just exploring options.

Do I Really Need a Receiver?

Ok... a little strange, but here goes: I NEVER listen to music. I don't care anything about music. (There, got it off my chest)... Here is a list of what I don't need: 1. Bluetooth 2. Internet 3. Wireless connectivity to phone 4. Computer access 5. AM/FM 6. Pandora 7. Station presets.... and on...

    Pioneer SC-1222-K ... vs ... Pioneer VSX-1122-K

Ok... this kind of stuff is the reason I'm here! So would you consider the ONKYO TX-NR717? I believe it might have been you who posted "the 717 will mop the floor with the 1222." (paraphrased...correct me if I'm wrong) Newegg has it right now for $500 with the $50 promo code. Obviously a great deal.

    Pioneer SC-1222-K ... vs ... Pioneer VSX-1122-K

Thanks Sam and Gene... quite helpful information. It's been a LONG time since I did any research on AVR's. As I mentioned in another thread, I purchased my Harman Kardon AVR65 in 1998 and it has been a reliable work-horse for 15 years. But it's been a little long-in-the-tooth for about 8 of...

    Pioneer SC-1222-K ... vs ... Pioneer VSX-1122-K

I've been researching new receivers and I found an interesting fact about the comparison between these two: 1. They have similar features. 2. The 1222 has a "Class D3" amplifier 3. The 1222 weighs a WHOPPING 32 POUNDS!!!! (1122 weighs 22 lbs.) WOW! 4. 1222 is $529 at Newegg, free shipping 5...

Harman Kardon AVR65 (Old Reliable) Finally Needs a Replacement!

Not a bad idea, but I'm really looking to upgrade, especially with all the high tech features that the new units have. The old HK is pretty basic. I don't really need more power, but I would like the capability to network with my home computer. But I will definitely look into having it repaired...

Harman Kardon AVR65 (Old Reliable) Finally Needs a Replacement!

Jason... thanks for the input. I have used this forum for a few years, but never "joined" with a specific question until today. I usually do some searches and it answers my questions very well. I've just read so many user reviews about certain products (receivers) that are completely negative...

Harman Kardon AVR65 (Old Reliable) Finally Needs a Replacement!

I bought the H/K AVR65 in 1998 and it has been perfect for 15 years. Now I'm starting to hear a few pops and hisses! So it's time to replace & upgrade. Here's the advise I need. I'm looking for the best/most reliable 7.1 with 100+ power for around $500. I could do $600 but it would be painful. I...
