    10 must-own 4K UHD Blu-rays of 2020-21

Well, apparently I'm a well trained consumer, because I have everything here except The Ladykillers. I've looked at it a couple of times on Amazon UK, but they want so much in shipping charges these days that I've not been doing much importing lately. Time for a fresh web search, I guess...

    A Few Words About A few words about…™ Wings of the Hawk – in Blu-ray & 3-D

For me it's an easy decision, when I see 3D Film Archive, I just buy the disc. If I don't like the movie, I can always pass it on to a friend or resell it. Taza is on my watch list for this weekend - I'm already believing that Rock is a true Native American.

Best Streaming Service w/High Quality Audio/Video? Possible Cord Cutter???

I think you're going down the same path that I've been on. For live TV, the only two options I really looked at are YouTubeTV and Hulu Live. Both of them are pretty blah as far as AV quality. Video is probably 720p most of the time and it's just stereo. I thought Hulu performed a little bit...

Effects of incoming 8K format on current and future 4K content

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Olympics. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be the first big push of 8K to an American audience, brought to you once again by NHK. I don't know how we'll be able to see it, but it will be recorded in 8K. Most likely it will run on the 4K satellite channels in...

    Dolby Atmos in-ceiling speakers

Yes, I'm using the SVS Prime Elevation speakers - only two of them, but placed directly in line with the front speakers. That's probably not the 100% best setup, but it's certainly enough to test with. Mad Max does have an effective mix for tops. I've been meaning to re-watch Bladerunner with...

    Dolby Atmos in-ceiling speakers

My experience with the Atmos height speakers is that it's a really subtle effect. I would not sweat the ceiling speakers so much. If you can buy them as the same brand as your front/center/right, that's probably a step in the right direction. Personally, I would dedicate more money to your...

What is your final format ?

One year ago I would have answered Bluray. I was quite skeptical that 4K would be enough of an upgrade to make it worth it for me. In 2018, my answer is 4K. I've been pleasantly surprised at the improvements in both video and audio with the format. That said, I'm open-minded about what the...

Win a Denon X5200W 9.2 channel Dolby Atmos AVR with a copy of Insurgent on Blu-ray!

The new X5200W is perfect for the receiver. I already have PSB full array for the front and backs, but it might be time to bring the center out of the rack, or possibly replace it entirely. I guess I'll have to go with speakers reflecting off the ceiling for now. TV is Panasonic plasma, so...

Win an Onkyo TX-NR1030 9.2 channel Dolby Atmos AV Receiver (Redux)

I'm very happy with my current 7.1 setup, but the Onkyo would allow me to upgrade the surrounds, push the current side surrounds to the back, and use the back surrounds for a front height channel. Although it's a bit of overkill, I could also add a second sub to smooth out the room response...

Win a copy of Jupiter Ascending on Blu-ray!

Channing Tatum is OK as a rescuer, but can I choose a different color of facial hair?

Win an Onkyo TX-NR1030 9.2 channel Dolby Atmos AV Receiver

It seems like this is the year to move beyond what we have now with 7.1 systems. We're getting very close to the 10.2 surround ideal that I read about from Tom Holman 20 years ago...or was it 30? Besides, I actually I have the space to implement it correctly now.
