I'm trying to help my dad get his system setup. He has an Onkyo TX-NR809 and Sony BDP-S590. The firmware is up to date. I have the blu ray player set to bitstream and it still displays "PCM" on the receiver. Whatever word that carries more weight than frustrated would work for me right now.

In a situation where somebody has a budget for surrounds. Is it better to spend it on two better speakers for 5.1 or four lesser speakers for 7.1?
