    The DVD day’s are numbered.

I'm not sure "youngsters" have the moral high ground, but they certainly have consumer high ground, and that is what rules the day. I like holding my books, CDs, and DVDs; that will never change. I've never streamed or downloaded, and I never will.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Vietnam War -- in Blu-ray

His recounting of that phone call with the young lady asking for Revolutionary War film footage would be funny if it wasn't so damn tragic. I don't when that phone call occurred, but it's obvious that the dumbing down of America started a long time ago. Heartbreaking.

    oh why not....THE ABYSS

Does Cameron truly believe that after all this time, the public is clamoring for 4 Avatar sequels? [yup] One would have been fine, but not four! Insane.

    3D Terminator 2 Judgement Day 3D

Betamax? We are showing our age... ;o) Seriously, I think Cameron is over-estimating the staying power of "Avatar'. Yes, it was extraordinarily popular and profitable, but ELEVEN YEARS to wait for the sequel(s), and is the public really clamoring for 4 more iterations? I think Cameron is really...

    3D Terminator 2 Judgement Day 3D

Van Ling, thank you. I knew his first name, but I could not remember his last name. Too bad about he and Cameron. I'm sure Cameron isn't the easiest auteur to work with.

    3D Terminator 2 Judgement Day 3D

P.S. Avatar 2 won't be released until 2020? I think Cameron's audience for the first film might be too old to care about the sequels! Come on, James, just reissue True Lies and The Abyss on BR. I can't remember the name of the guy who produced the LDs of T2 and The Abyss, but he did a great job...

    The Mist - Spike TV

Have you guys forgotten Frank Darabont's excellent 2007 film? Unfortunately, not a box-office success, it was well-acted and well produced. Unfortunately, Darabont, with King's permission, changed the ended that was very jarring and, frankly (no pun), inexplicable. Still worth watching, I think.

I totally agree that Ryan was an underrated actor. Just watch "Billy Budd" or "The Wild Bunch" (in particular). Remarkable performances, both.

Seven Days In May (1964) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Ditto. Also waiting for "Fail-Safe". There were several dark, memorable topical thrillers from the mid-60s.

    Blu-ray in the foreseeable future?

I'm curious to know if anyone has heard/read of any one releasing Blu-ray editions of "The Heiress" (1949) or Scorsese's "The Age of Innocence" in the foreseeable future? And finally, is there going to a review of the Cohen Collection's "Howard's End" that appears to be getting quite a bit of...

Grimm will be ending in 2017!

I gave up on this show a long time ago. Have they ever explained why all the creatures moved to Portland, OR. None of the main characters ever seem to think that's odd.

    "The Alamo"s Status?

At 15, I probably could have travelled 80 miles by bus from Lansing to Detroit to see the film in a large screen format and state-of-the-art sound system (like I did for HTWWW a couple of years later), so I stand by my initial observation for the majority of movie goers in 1960.

    "The Alamo"s Status?

Mr, Hynes sound design may have been wonderful, but, unfortunately, in the late 50s and early 60s, most movie houses had little interest (or access) to 'high tech' sound systems that could properly reproduce the sound stage of a film; that said, I still believe it is Dimitri Tiomkin's...

    "The Alamo"s Status?

Mr. Harris: your advocacy for the salvaging/restoration of "The Alamo' is commendable, but misguided. You know better than any of us that the "restoration" ship has sailed, and any market for a restored version of the film is diminishing quickly, while the artistic merits of the film, paltry. As...

    Gay-Friendly Blu-rays

Longtime Companion was one of the most heart-wrenching films I've ever experienced. Perhaps it was because I'm of the AIDS generation and the people and themes really hit home (although the gay soap opera star never rang true); other than that, it is a great film that I watch infrequently...

    Into the Badlands (AMC)

A strange show indeed -- I kept waiting for Burl Ives and Paul Newman to make an appearance! The diaglog was pretty weak and the acting pretty wooden, but visually, it was pretty damn impressive (as someone else pointed out, the use of rain was very effective), but I just don't know what it can...

    RYAN’S DAUGHTER: Discussions for a BD Release (2015 - 2024)

A very interesting discussion, and a little disturbing. I'm wondering if we're not seeing a paradigm shift in how we value motion picture as an art form? My sense is that DVD/Blu-rays are quickly reaching their expiration date in the same way that VHS and Blockbuster did ten or fifteen years...

    "The Alamo"s Status?

Dr Griffin: I did not bring up the Library of Congress Registry of Films or A Man for All Seasons - I was simply responding to points raised earlier in this thread. And please don't lecture me on the purpose of this thread or the importance of film art and its preservation. Absolutely, I believe...

    "The Alamo"s Status?

If critcs viewed an unaltered copy of 'The Alamo' today, for the first time, they would tear it to pieces. The film simply "got away" from Wayne. The first two acts are ponderous fodder for the final act. For a film that was supposed honor the Alamo garrison, it fails miserably. Except for the...

    Gay-Friendly Blu-rays

Glad you guys enjoyed Big Eden, but I found it really ho-hum (especially Arye Gross in a completely unconvincing performance), and I don't think its Blu-ray incarnation will change my opinion. I'm taking a pass. As for Boys in the Band, I remember when it first came out and it was oh-so...

A Few Words About 'While we wait for A few words about...™ Spartacus -- in Blu-ray'

I'm curious to read the answer to an earlier post: " just hope the Anthony Hopkins re-dub is sent to the extras." . If that scene was part of the original release of the film, I would like to see it retained (dubbed or not), but if it was cut before release, I suppose it belongs in the extras.

Nick*Z - (And what's with the comedy after the ship begins to sink. You know the scene I'm referring to: inside the master at arm's office, Jack chained to a pipe and Rose taking clumsy whacks to practice her axe-chopping technique. "Jack!" "Rose!" "Jack" Rose" "Jack...oh, Jack!" Remember...

The most over rated films of all time

This thread reminds of my college days, sitting around in a coffee shop, when we were all theater/cinema majors, and absolutely could not tolerate the "popular" cinema - and we went out of way to nominate (and this was the 60s, so we had lots to choose from) the most obscure, unwatchable...

Could the original, unaltered STAR WARS be on its way to Blu-ray?

This very long thread makes it abundantly clear to me that the status of the original three films is a generational debate. I remember a friend dragging (well, not literally) 80 miles to Detroit to see SW during its first run in '77. The opening 30 seconds or so of the star cruiser slowly...

    Gay-Friendly Blu-rays

What I was referring to was the final scene when Maurice has left and Clive is standing at the window and then pulling the blinds closed. To me, that scene met that Clive was shutting Maurice out of his life forever, and that he was closing the blinds on his brief encounter with his...
