    Mancave-material receiver

Thanks for the input everyone, Im glad I am getting pretty consistent answers from multiple forums. Originally I was torn between the Onkyo 708 and the Marantz 5005, but I have decided to fork out the extra money for the Onkyo 709 and the Multi eq XT as well as a few other features that came...

Our $3000 Man-cave (Looking for construvtive criticism)

Thanks for the response Gene. I was pretty worried that 5.1 and high-end would be contradictory, but you certainly confirmed it for me. I noticed that the 709 was the only Onkyo model that had the Multi EQ that you're referring to, but I guess I didn't know very much about the technology itself...

    Mancave-material receiver

Greetings all, I will try to be short since I am in the process of learning a heck of a lot from the different posters around these forums. Here is the link to my original post in the newbie board. http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/314807/our-3000-man-cave-looking-for-construvtive-criticism My...

Our $3000 Man-cave (Looking for construvtive criticism)

Thanks Jim, I just assumed the contrast ratio meant that the 8350 would have slightly deeper blacks than the 3010, I didn't mean to quantify the difference since you're right in saying that those specs are usually meaningless when it comes to the advertised rating. After doing a little more...

Our $3000 Man-cave (Looking for construvtive criticism)

Jim, I wanted to ask why you would prefer more brightness in a projector over contrast ratio. I only asked based on the specs of the 3010 since it has a higher lumens rating. 10% gain in luminosity is worth the 20% loss in contrast ratio?

New theater setup on the way! Have a couple questions...

This thread isnt too old so I thought I would post my words of encouragement. First of all I think we are going to have an extremely similar setup. I will probably get the exact same projector if not one of their new ones coming out next month. The speakers and even the design of the room is...

Our $3000 Man-cave (Looking for construvtive criticism)

Robert, I'll probably build the screen if it isn't too complicated, but after reading that thread you linked, I really don't have much confidence in my DIY capabilities anymore. The most I've done is create a ported box for some subwoofers for my car with some installers from Best Buy when I...

Our $3000 Man-cave (Looking for construvtive criticism)

Thanks for the responses guys. Jim: 1) What is your budget for projector? I had originally budgeted $1300 because that was how much the 8350 costs, but I'm really not in a hurry to complete this because I want it to be an awesome setup. We wouldn't be putting any of this together until November...

Alright, First and foremost, I want to extend a thank you to the active posters here. Before making this post, I certainly spent a few hours just reading through some of the posts and I have already learned an incredible amount compared to what I knew yesterday :) With that being said, let me...
