I've got Exodus and Man of the West and think the transfers are pretty good considering they only cost $14 each at JB Hifi.
Exodus is dual layer whereas Man of the West is single layer.
I'm in Australia too, so with Twilight Time orders I usually wait until there's a few titles I want before placing an order in order to spread the exorbitant shipping costs.
I also took advantage of the deal to get a free signed copy of Hard Times which I'm selling to a friend. This way I got...
Any more info about when Plunder Road will be released?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050847/combined
IMDB says that there are two versions, one with voice over narration and one with out. It would be great to have both versions, e.g. an alternate sound track.
Or you could wait until a few weeks before it is released and get it for about $15 from importcds.com they sell most Olive Films Blu-rays for around that price.
Doesn't that disc have both widescreen and pan and scan versions on alternate sides of a dual sided disc? I never understood why Fox bothered with the pan and scan transfer. A complete waste of money. It is hilarious that they have chosen to release the Pan and Scan version for their MOD...
It sounds like you need to replace your DVD drive.
Any DVD Burner should have no trouble recognising Warner Archive DVDs because (nearly) all of them are burnt (rather than pressed) DVDs.
Well it suggests that they are simply making DVD masters FROM THE FIRST VIDEO MASTER THEY FIND!!!! Rather than putting in the effort to find a widescreen master!
Doesn't that suggest to you that they are basically holding their customers in complete contempt? Not only are they not willing to do...
I think it is hilarious that not only is Fox Home Entertainment willing to make money out of crappy pan and scan releases but they aren't providing clear information about these transfers so that it is clear to everyone which transfers are pan an scan!
These are the activities of a business that...
It is pretty obvious that there is little communication between the asset protection and retail arms of Fox Home Entertainment.
Take Night People as an example which the Australian DVD proves has clearly been restored, yet the Fox MOD programme has just put out a pan and scan version.
Or what...
Wild River is part of the Volume 2 box which is currently just $35 for 4 films:

ORDERED!
I'll have to get a friend to send the order from the U.S., but at this price these boxes are a bargain. I think the better box is Vol. 2.
The Kazan DVD box had a great DVD of Wild River, so the Blu-ray will look spectacular.
If they were fair they would sell the pan and scan titles for $5, the non-anamorphic titles for $10, and the anamorphic titles for $15. Anything that is newly re-mastered in HD (1080p, not 1080i!) they could sell for $20 with the option of buying it on a Blu-ray for $25.
If that was their...
I got the Australian disc today. It is anamorphic widescreen and a very good looking transfer for such an early CinemaScope film. The audio is stereo but it is 2.0 not 5.1.
It's a bargain at $10. There are copies on ebay.com.au for those interested.
It is obviously a much better deal than...
Well that really sucks because I have a TCM recording of this that is 4:3 widescreen! So that must mean that a letterboxed widescreen transfer master exists somewhere, but they just couldn't be bothered finding it!
This is definitive proof that the FOX MOD scheme is just an attempt to make a...
There is a decent DVD of 23 Paces to Baker Street released in Australia:
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=23+paces+to+baker+street&_sacat=0&_from=R40
It isn't the best picture quality but it is definitely widescreen.
King of the Khyber Rifles was the first film to feature a credit for CinemaScope lenses. The Robe, How to Marry A Millionaire, Beneath the 12 Mile Reef and Knights of the Round Table don't have any lens credit.
It would be really nice if Twilight Time re-issued the Columbia Boetticher box on Blu-ray. You could probably fit all of the films on only a couple of 50 GB Blu-rays.
Do you mean the DVD or the Blu-ray? I received the Blu-ray this week but I haven't watched it yet.
I watched the Criterion Blu-ray of Anatomy of a Murder this week and think that is far superior to the Region 2 DVD I have.
