This will be my first 4K purchase. i love this film (especially the score). I find it to be pretty unsettling ... and certainly not the minor bit of 50s fluff others have labeled it. Im so excited to see it has finally gotten a worthy presentation.
I'll pick this up for the beautiful B&W...for the insane Rococo/Streamline/Deco/stuff-the-entire-screen-with-orchids-and-sequins school of production design...and for everything that comes before the Intermission card. (I can live without the momentum-free 2nd half of this film). This Blu was...
Dance Fools Dance was on laserdisc in the "Crawford and Gable" boxed set. As I recall it looked only marginally better than the VHS. I'll plunk down cash to see pretty much ANY 1930s film transferred
from the OCN, especially pre code. Count me in for this one.
Agreed. Speaking of generational shifts...I have younger friends who just cannot make it through a studio-era film... and not because of them being B&W or "boring"....it's the passive woman/macho man dynamic of many of them sends them running for the exit. And racial elements? Forget it...
I doubt Saratoga is anyone's favorite movie (it's a somewhat morbid film to watch when you know the back story)... but as with so many other recent Warner Archive releases... the insanely beautiful presentation REALLY uplifts films that I used to wave off as routine and forgettable. (they've...
A definite purchase for me, if only to see that glitter dress in HD. I had the privilege of seeing this in 35mm years ago....it's a very handsome film.
This movie is wild. Has been very high on my "holy grail Blu ray" list. I saw this years ago and I couldn't quite believe it was the goody-goody Joan Leslie of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and endless other Warner Bros ingenue roles. I highly recommend this to B-noir fans hungry for an...
The Raging Tide at last 💪. Tho not top tier noir... Conte and Winters are great in it, and it has been very hard to find. Have been very happy with the quality of these Kino noir sets.
I was pretty blown away by the picture quality of this one ... and by that certain plot twist 3/4 in !
I'd love to see Busby Berkeley's Gold Diggers of 1933 ...and the wild pre-code Wonder Bar (also with Kay Francis) in an extraordinary presentation like this.
Blind purchase for me. Have heard so many good things about this film over the years... excited to finally watch it.
Tho to be honest ....Technicolor Anything from Warner Archive ... I'll likely buy it no matter what the film is. (is Technicolor addiction a thing?)
I stand behind my belief that blind Mr Merkle swinging his cane around and busting through the glass door of W C Fields' store is the funniest thing Ive ever seen in my life. ("ya got that door closed again!...")
Very excited to get this.
Bullets Over Broadway at last!
i'll probably wait for reviews before ordering this ... this company has only released a handful of films on blu and i've never heard of any of them.
whoa... i don't know this film. this universal deal has resulted in some exciting stuff. any obscure films/rarities from the 30s/40s on blu ray ... i'll buy them day one.
this and the announcement of The Red Shoes and Citizen Kane from Criterion are enough to get me to upgrade to 4k at long last. Seeing classic movies in gorgeous picture and sound quality is one of life's great pleasures.
Another interesting credit : written by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby... who wrote the Marx’s “Duck Soup” and “Horse Feathers”.
I’ll definitely support this release. This is kinda thing I used to play hooky from work to go see at places like the Film Forum. Only reparatory theaters right now are...
Tho not included here, the 3D Blu ray version of “Miss Sadie Thompson” from Twilight was wonderful ... we were really startled by the “rain storm in your living room” effect that occurred ...and Hayworth was MUCH better in that role than I had been led to believe. Im excited to get the rest of...
This is great news. Ive always longed to see what those two Busby Berkeley numbers look like in their full Technicolor glory (or at least as close a we can currently get). The movie itself is ok...but it really comes roaring to life during those two sequences. (There's a good episode about...
Exciting! For years this movie has looked like it was ridden hard and put away wet. Seeing it in its true technicolor beauty will be a real treat.
Definite purchase for me.
Gotta place my order for this.
Durbin was my late grandmothers favorite actress. She said all the girls in Catholic school were obsessed with her. They'd sing "Ave Maria" in church and pretend to be her. Ha.
Im still holding out hope for her film noir CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY to get a release in...
It’s bad in a “Lost Horizon” (1973) way as opposed to a “Valley of The Dolls” way.
“Fascinatingly ill-advised” would be my take
What stuck out for me was an animated sequence with giants coming over the mountain that is completely out of nowhere and kind of disturbing.
Day one purchase for me.
Been wanting “The Sleeping City” forever. Richard Conte is one my favorite noir actors.
Hoping for possible release of another Universal noir of his that is MIA: “Under The Gun”.
I watched by Blu ray again yesterday, here in the lengthy, ongoing Quarantine Film Festival.
Yes...I saw the restoration comparison...I agree...the restored version is free from any scratches or dirt whatsoever...as a "clean up" it is extraordinary. No question.
But honestly the grain...
