You'd think multi-millionaires like Spielberg and Scorsese would throw some pocket change at Universal to make things perfect.
I find it hard to believe that a film that has so many (wealthy) admirers is struggling for a budget to restore it properly.
Disappointed with the lack of extras - a commentary would have been nice - perhaps by Mr. Koster? He seems to know his stuff.
Still extremely thankful Universal didn't botch the transfer, though.
Are there really that many unreleased Bogart movies? From the two signature boxsets and the four gangster boxsets and several other boxsets I sure have a lot of them.
So the count will be:
Wizard of Oz: 4 Blu-ray versions
Return to Oz: 0 Blu-ray version
Hey Warner how about releasing OTHER classic films. You do have them you know, like:
John Ford movies
Astaire and Rogers movies
James Cagney gangster movies
James Stewart movies
Cary Grant movies...
Not to question Spielberg, but he's hardly going to say "it looks alright". He's out to sell a product and is not going to be the most objective POV at this point in time.
A hyperbolic myth. If a film shows a head getting blown off it's going to get an R-rating, at least. Talk to Paul Verhoeven and David Lynch about that.
Back to Barbarella, I'd be much more concerned with the impression left by the "Excessive Machine" scene than the rather tame and innocent...
Who cares how much it costs or how much sense it makes, a masterpiece like The Quiet Man has been woefully served on home video thus far, and now it looks like it will finally be given a release it so richly deserves. This news should cause nothing but optimism.
I think The Big Heat looks fantastic on Blu-ray. Quite why Sony didn't release it themselves is beyond me. They could have ported the extras on the DVD over and sold it at a more reasonable price without the limited stock nonsense.
Selling these films at high prices with extremely limited...
Why on earth would Paramount farm one of the best, most revered films in their catalogue out to some rinky dink outfit (no offfense Olive) instead of releasing it themselves?
Considering I much, much, much prefer the 1938 version and I would rather slam my hand in a car door than watch The Hangover I rebuke all accusations of being a modern simpleton. :P
Maybe if they released great Hepburn movies like Roman Holiday and Sabrina and not the mediocre ones like My Fair...
I owned the UK Special Edition prior to this and it is a significant upgrade from that release. The ugly edge enhancement is gone. The digital noise is gone. There is now a fine layer of grain, And the old release was a cropped a bit, there is more viewable picture here. I'd say the most...
Ghastly coverart. One of the worst Blu-ray has puked so far and that's quite an achievement. And what makes it even worse is that the film has some really lovely theatrical posters.
A commentary. American Pie 2 has four commentaries, The Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia have zero between them. What a joke of a world. Ideally two commentaries. One cast cand crew. Second historical and film experts. Seamless branching between the main releases of...
