That was so well said! I have been complaining about this to anyone who will listen for almost 20 years...
Don't you just love those exciting sequences with an edit every 1.5 second (if that), that are shot in darkness, in extreme close up, with a shaking camera! ...Aah, wait a minute, you...
There is an extensive column at Bluray.com on "How to Marry a Millionaire", with lots of graphic. Really interesting!

Does the dialogue really ''reside mainly in the center channel"? On the LaserDisc it was very directional on my sound system. I never listened to the dvd mix.
I have noticed that certain classics on BD seem to have improperly balanced sound levels, where the centre channel somewhat drowns out...

I just listened to the opening scene with headphones. Just after Jim Neighbours says "It was the nicest little whorehouse you ever saw..." I can clearly hear the harp on the right, the strings on the left, and piano (I think) and drums in the centre. And when the film title shows up on screen...
If you listen to The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas DVD with headphones, a lot of the music is true stereo with decent seperation. But a couple of numbers do sound pretty much like mono. The effects and dialogue are all mono however. Yes, Universal needs to work on the soundtrack for Bluray...
I must say I wish they would stick with the ORIGINAL ART WORK... I have to agree it's like some sort of ugliness contest when it comes to classics on bluray. I cringe when I look as some of these. It just doesn't do justice at all to the time and effort that went into making them look...
For the record, the 2010 Lalaland soundtrack release is indeed in true stereo, from the original music recording done at Fox, and used in the film (it is not a rerecording of the score). The original stereo tracks had deteriorated and were unplayable until recently. As per the Lalaland website...
Has anybody gotten around to watching this? Just wondering how it looks and sounds. Is it another Spartacus/Out of Africa-type transfer from Universal?
Recently: CASINO ROYALE. Bleah! I was really turned off from the get go with that completely idiotic chase in the building under construction and the crane. I kept wondering why I was suddenly watching a Spiderman movie where the characters start climbing and jumping everywhere like insects...
One last tiny nitpick: I wish they hadn't tacked on the MGM logo at the begining and end, since it was a U/A release, and MGM had nothing to do with this movie when it came out. Can you imagine having the Warner Bros logo added to the beginning of The Wizard of OZ? Actually, the 70mm print I...
For some reason, the extras that are not in HD (Dick Van Dyke discussing the film, french trailer, vintage featurettes, etc) show up in the upper left corner of the screen, really small, maybe 15-20% of the screen, the rest is black. The scope clips of the film within that 4:3 area end up...
Is it just me, or does the picture and audio go slightly out of sync when the kids are lured out of the toy shop by the child snatcher?? Seems to last for a couple of scenes... Also (and I know I'm nitpicking here), the intermission card and entract practically overlap, and there is no...
Yes! I watched the Kelly's Heroes bd last night (before reading this thread), and I noticed the sync problem during the ENTIRE film. Annoyed me the whole time! Good thing there was lots of destruction to take my mind off of it. How can nobody at Warners notice an error as basic as this...
I just hope this is not the beginning of them releasing, rereleasing, and rerereleasing White Christmas, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Ten Commandments, and Funny Face, and NOTHING ELSE, for the next decade...
I was at the screening of the vintage 70mm print of CCBB at the Ottawa festival today. The 6-track sound was great! My wife and son commented on that a few times during the movie. Yes, the print was faded, but not that bad. It was pinkish, but not completely pink. Very sharp and clean.
