While I like the idea of the set, this doesn't seem like it should be a MOD release. Wouldn't a collection of Christmas episodes be ideal for retail stores? Put it on the impulse buy shelf at Wal Mart and sell tens of thousands of copies. An MOD release means someone has to want to buy it...
The set is already a 4 disc set (including the DVD and digital file). So, an extra disc would bring it to 5. Disc one has the film and a few extras, while disc two also has the film in "Cine-explore" version with on screen commentary. Plus it has the film with audio commentary. So, both...
This has been an excellent discussion. If I may pick up on some of Ron's points and ask a very important question. "When does DVD collecting cease to be something fun and instead become something to be embarrassed about?" I used to have several thousand titles. Friends and family...
Has anyone heard any rumors about CHEERS getting a complete series release? FRASIER too. I've held off on buying them since Paramount is usually good about releasing complete sets. But with the seasons released for over a year now, and only a bundling of the season sets available, has there...
For DVD fans, Time Warner's acquiring MGM is the only outcome that you should wish for. If another company takes over MGM (like Spyglass) it is going to be like it has been for the past decade. There are going to be a few films released, and then it is going to have more financial...
VH1's airings are of edited hour long versions. I checked the schedule and they are in hour long time slots. Today it was announced that EVERY episode, including the current season after two days, of the series will be available on Netflix's "Watch It Now" service. I don't know if these...
Hello,
I am sure that calibrating my monitor might fix things.
I have to admit, my eyesight is not the greatest. I was an early adopter to the DVD format, yet have never really noticed compression artifacts.
That said, film grain on Blu-rays has become very distracting. I...
Are you sure that top list is correct? I'm having trouble believing anyone, even EW, would remember, let alone wonder about a DVD release, for Suddenly Susan or Veronica's Closet.
I hate to sound like an ignorant / Jeff Wells like viewer complaining about "grainstorms"
BUT
In watching the Blu-ray, it has to be one of the grainiest I have seen in some time. I didn't have the original to compare it to, but I never noticed something like this on TV airings.

Hi Neil, One brief correction to your review. Creator Chuck Lorre had nothing to do with GILMORE GIRLS. He did do TWO AND A HALF MEN (which I agree is nothing like this show). Also, did anyone ever find out what happened with Episode 14, The Einstein Approximation? The episode...
I also am a bit confused by the press release, especially this line: But after transfer to Digi-Beta , the picture underwent substantial digital restoration, image processing and noise reduction eventually yielding a fully watchable picture. I don't know. I am sort of hoping for...
I don't have the numbers, but I would believe that THE WIRE has been a more popular title over time than DEADWOOD and if DEADWOOD is going Blu, that should show there is a market for it.
With a new MUPPET movie in the works at Disney (they just did a table read with the folks at Pixar for their input) I am sure they could be waiting for a tie in release. Maybe have season 4 for the theatrical release and 5 for the DVD release, or something like that.
As I write this, THE WIRE complete box set is # 333 on the bestseller list at Amazon. That includes movies and TV.
THE SOPRANOS complete set is # 1,058
And, DEADWOOD is # 629.
THE WIRE is actually more popular than either of those HBO series. It ranks # 15 in all HBO titles...
With the complete box set selling for $140 on DVD, is it really worth the $60 a season (meaning $300 for the full series) to buy it on Blu-ray? Granted, I used to get the Columbia house monthly volumes at $25 for 4 episodes, so the BR is a bargain compared to that. But since I am only a...
I wouldn't put anything into the recent news about MGM's debt problems. Just this morning there is yet another company, this one from India, that wants to take over the studio. For a DVD fan, you can only have hoped that they accepted Warner's attempts to buy them out. Warner has an...
