    My Favourite film

This is his son, Sebastian. I have saved the thread and mailed my sisters and Robyn who will enjoy your kind thoughts and wishes. We all miss him very much. As you might have guessed he was an extraordinary man, Arts editor for the age, Manager of the Australian Ballet, and Arts administrator...

    My Favourite film

Sadly my father Anthony has passed away, he made a special mention to say goodbye to all his friends on this forum. His cancer was diagnosed only a couple of weeks before his death and we can be consoled knowing he enjoyed films and books right up until the end. he was barely able to talk but...

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) (Blu-ray)

I wrote here recently that "Cary Grant is one of my alll-time favourite actors and I will here NOTHING against him." The very wonderful Will Krupp, in his reply, forewent mentioning my appalling illiteracy. I knew I wasn't well when I wrote it ... now tests have shown I again had Covid, second...

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Back to the Beach -- in Blu-ray

Love all round. For Annette, for Cubby, for the whole crew. And 'Back to the Beach' is a lovely memorial to the wonderful Annette. I mentioned in another thread how hot I was for her when she was about 12 or 13 and I was just sweet 11.

Pre-Order Back To The Beach (1987) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

And from an Australian director! Lovely little spoof. Maybe it will fare better nowadays as a retro-visit than at the time. And I've just found to my shock that I had advanced urges when I first saw the blissfull Annette in The Mickey Mouse Club. I thought that we were the same age (around 12)...

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) (Blu-ray)

Cary Grant is one of my alll-time favourite actors and I will here NOTHING against him. Well , except that he is so so over-the-top in this and his mugging is truly painful. I'm so glad to hear that this was not his fault, but Capra's strict instruction. Great film though, saved mainly by a...

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) (Blu-ray)

Send it to ME! Come to think of it, I might have it, in which case I can just pop the Blu ray into the Snapper case and throw away the cheap Blu ray plastic.l

What are your top 10 favorite films - or simply your favorites?

My favourite repeatable-viewing Blu rays (ok for this forum) with a couple of ring-ins are Casablanca For Me and My Gal Groundhog Day Deep Impact Ivan the Terrible Parts 1 and 2 The Maltese version (second version, the one with Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor) The Gay Divorcee Swing Time Les...

International Via Vision Entertainment announces new premium Blu-ray label IMPRINT

The combination of Adrian Lyne and Jeremy Irons makes this a brilliant movie, very different but just as compelling as Kubrick's take on Nabakov's wonderful tale, which I first read so many years ago as a schoolboy, while the novel was still banned from sale in Austrlalia. I can't remember at...

    Warner Archive Announcements Thread

Day first - month second - if there's a year, it's 3rd. That's the rule that's been drummed into us all our lives. Down here (and in Britain) 11/8 is August 11. You can see why so many people in both continents get confused when trying to follow the other. Yes, I guess we should remember that...

Casablanca on 11/8? Fantastic. Just six days after my birthday. Wait though ... do they mean 8/11, which is way too long after for a proper birthday celebration. These strange US dates get so confusing.

Why does Night And Day 1946 look like - yuck - upgrade to blu ray and restored needed badly

We've seen it at least three or four times and love it for its inadvertent idiocies ... and the wonderful musical numbers. Mind you, I find Monty Woolley intensely annoying to the point of puking. But he's like that in everything he's in. I think I've mentioned this somewhere else, but I love...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Lawrence of Arabia -- in 4k/UHD Blu-ray

The only Paul Verhoeven movies I've unreservedly liked are 'Black Book', a very unsettling account of how evil can permeate both sides of any conflict, and some good can be revealed at the same time, and the fabulous comic-strip version of 'Starship Troopers', set in an universe so many parcecs...

'Tobis' For a Few Dollars More

My son bought me a surprise present ... the Kino 4k 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly'. It arrived yesterday from Amazon, so I went there to see how much the first two in the trilogy are. I'm keen to get all three in 4K. However, as my son found, the cost to buy and post to Austalia is prohibitive...

I can't remember the first VHS I bought, but it might well have been the same as the first DVD I bought ... 'Casablanca' naturally!

Crawdaddy's "Random Thoughts" about Home Video, Film & TV

Anyone who loves seeing the blissful Myrna Loy should read her autobiography 'Myrna Loy - Being and Believing'. It's a sensational read, about the career and beliefs of a strong intelligent and independent woman.

Pre-Order Back To The Beach (1987) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

Yes, so sad. She once wrote about the awfulness of people seeing her fall over due to MS and saying she was just drunk. It's reminiscent of how people treated Dudley Moore as his similar disorder took its toll.. I remember Annette mainly as a hot little 12 or 13 year old because at that time I...

Blu-ray Review Flower Drum Song Blu-ray Review

For my money, the best flub of all is in the number 'Is There Anyone Here for Love' from 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes'. Jane Russell is sitting at the side of the ship's swimming pool while the men from America's Olympic team sailing to Europe line up to dive over her head into the pool. The last...

Can't wait for Back to the Beach. Some of the finest surfing footage ever shot. That final ride 'the big kahoona' is truly unbelievable. No-could could dispute that. Annette is a bit older than I remember from her peak years, but she's still Annette. A must-have!

The Cruel Sea Blu Ray State Side? Maybe KINO?

I went for the multi disc set and was hugely pleased, especially by the widescreen version. It's in our special edition section of our bookshelves, alongside the limited edition of 'Withnail and I' and some special Hitchcock compendiums.

Recommendations for summer films (1930-1990) on blu-ray

Just seconding the recommendation of 'Monsieur Hulot's Holiday'. Just the best summer holiday movie ever made. Try either the 1950s original, or the later re-edited version with some new sequences including a wonderful reference to 'Jaws'. Both are very desirable viewing.
