Does anyone know if this is a new, high quality transfer? In prior hunts for this title in HD I heard of a HDTV broadcast that was barely HD and may have been upscaled. Since it doesn't sound as if this is bringing over ANY of the old DVD's extras, I'd like to know if it's worth my money.
Also extremely disappointed about this - on general principle, mostly, but on top of that, I didn't even know that line was bad (I assume you mean "wait!" before she says "stop!") [edit: Maaaybe this will be fixed, too?] One of these days I'm going to figure out how to add my mono digital LD rip...
Does anyone know if this is the uncensored version? It seems like the theatrical release had one or two scenes concerning sex with Booga that weren't on the DVD.
Oh thank you! I have very occasionally heard people grumble about audio problems on the DVDs (and beyond, so I figure it's something to do with the 5.1 mix) but no one ever gave me specifics that would illustrate them. And I'm seeing the same on that line (it's at about 19:20, after Doc appears...
Sidestepping any debate about whether or not to have further debate... just a reminder, if anyone happens to go to the special Cinemark screenings tomorrow or Wednesday, I'd certainly appreciate hearing how things look there. Apart from that I suppose I don't have anything else to add for now.
Oh yeah, I don't want to sound like I'm singling out Universal (I didn't know that was a major theme).
I don't know, of course, whether Gale and co sat down and reviewed every single frame with a loupe, or took a peek at a handful of scenes to make sure the overall look (graininess, color...
Bryan, I certainly agree with you. Even if it were just one categorical denial that would be enough for me to lose some faith and trust in them. I also am happy the original opening logos tend to get used (that is another thing many people seem to consider insignificant when other studios...
I took a look at my Starfighter DVD (25th anniv.) and yes indeed, that's quite a thing. I'm not surprised you got the same sort of line, since USHE seem pretty big on denial. One can save a lot of cash if one puts one's head in the sand. Interestingly (and damningly), the score is audible in the...
So first, I just learned that there's a very brief theatrical exhibition of BTTF coming next week across the US: www.cinemark.com/cinemark-classic-series
I assume this will be from a digital source, and so I wonder how the credits (and filmic look, etc.) will be. I probably won't even be able to...
I agree that "to be concluded" looks a little silly (or downright confusing) when there was no "to be continued" after part 1, but since TBC wasn't in the original it's the right path to take. It would be neat, though, if they'd allowed the option to watch the movie with it, since DVD and...
Exactly, it's the distortion that stresses me most (obviously an entire movie's worth of it is worse; that one release of Gulliver's Travels also comes to mind). I'm sure I'm not even close to alone here in having aspect ratios and related topics as a major hot button... misframing (Willy Wonka...
I didn't expect this to go into prioritization talk; to be clear, I am not trying to insinuate a ranking above a more filmic transfer or getting never-released titles out (or looking into audio and other issues). Is there a reason one can't have both? It can't be as much effort or cost to rescan...
I'm not naive enough not to realize that half the reason (or more) people seem unaware of this and greet it with such apathy is not many give the credits a second thought. But that's still a pretty glib and insulting attitude to take. They're still part of the movie, and deserve the same...
Anybody? Obviously not, though I know I'm one of the few vocalizing a complaint about it. And last? Why's it got to be last, as opposed to 2nd or 3rd? Even if it's not number one, why must one pick and choose? It seems sensible to point out more problems and collect them - maybe even more likely...
It's not so much the centering (I was trying to build up to the major problem) as the distortion, which is incredibly distracting (maybe even more so than the misframing of the 2002 DVDs).
Apart from what's actually wrong with the transfer, the major issue I have is that Universal continues to...
Back to the Future is 28 years old. For the 25th anniversary (well, of its October plot date) Universal gave us a fancy Blu-ray trilogy set (and DVDs from the same HD transfer), but the end credits on BTTF (not the sequels) are really messed up and Universal does not seem to want to do a thing...
The main reason I want good (pseudo) interlacing is because of that very flicker effect in some games and stuff. Isn't it also true that if a movie or show is telecined for 30 fps interlaced, it looks better if it's displayed interlaced? Anyway... will try to make some decisions soon. I...
That would be interlacing, or at least as close as it could get... I'm really surprised there isn't more support for it. I know a lot of interlaced content is really just telecined from film elements and it would make sense to display that progressively... some stuff won't look as good that way...
So for interlacing, is there any hint I can use to figure out which do it better? Refresh rate, for example? Or is it just that some would implement it by leaving each field as it was all the time and others would go back and forth at 60 hz displaying only the half image...? Any brand...
OK, so I've been gradually working on getting a whole setup - this will be the first time I ever get an HDTV, surround AV receiver, or Blu-Ray player. I've got most of the info I need, but some specifics are driving me nuts because I can only figure out so much in stores or from...
