Many have suggested the Onkyo HT-S6200. I was only looking for a 5.1 system but this is a 7.1 that I can apparently use as a 5.1. Its a relatively small living room.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. It does allow for individual speaker volume adjustment up to 10db. I have maxed it out with in the surround speakers with still no results?????

What is the best but cheapest set-up for a surround system that is NOT HTIB?

The calibration mode lets you pick the size of the speakers (small or large) and then the distance. The distance length maximum was 10 ft. Well, the speaker was more than 10ft. so, I just set it to the max. Does the length of the wire matter?

The receiver is also a dvd player. It is a DCP-501 Motorola. Its connected with speaker wires.
