Warner need to "let go" of the many MGM titles they will not bring to BD - let alone 4k - while others such as Kino continue to release large numbers of old films that are not "cool" by today's standards - so there obviously is a market. Columbia have released so many films now on 4k - Warner...
No surprise, GZ is another tremendous effort from WA. Beautiful presentation of a major film event.
Sensational and not the unworthy of Best picture as often regarded...watched the new Blu Ray an appreciated it more...if only Warner would give us more of their MGM library that they leave...
well said ...I wonder if the general public have a clue about what MGM really is/was? Such a shame it was left in limbo with Ted Turner and now Warner do not seem to value the library except for the trophy titles ...and they do the best job on restoring ...but on so few
Hi Mr Harris - do you have any influence at Warner Archive? I am surprised at the extent of early 1930's releases which take up a considerable proportion of the few releases each month. And the titles of the new films are certainly at best - ordinary....Spinout, Double Elvis are weak titles &...
A welcome Blu Ray upgrade and undoubtedly the print will be immaculate ...after the release of an over proportionate amount of early 30's films, let's hope it signals the start of more 1950's films...particularly the Cinemascope & stereo sound films which benefit in more ways than the early...
I just watched my DVD again - the actual race track scenes are fairly ordinary and obviously news footage...it will be interesting to see how these segments hold up...the film is very entertaining but why are Warner selecting so many LESSER or MINOR titles for the so-few Blu Ray releases coming...
Why is there zero news on the web about the excellent French Blu Ray release of THE ALAMO. Is this not a full restoration of at least, the shortened cinema version - (long enough) at 2h 41m. The two disc edition has removable French sub titles - a second disc features the 3h20m version - a...
WHERE ARE THE MANY "MIDDLE" M-G-M MUSICALS ...there are many that would benefit from a blu ray upgrade more so than the over-supply of very old 1930's titles that seem to be the mainstay each month....
what strange decisions are coming from Warner Archive Blu Ray upgrades ....with less-than-best for the stars' films like Spinout, Wichita, Land of Pharaohs, Athena, Penelope, Action of the Tiger and Dangerous When Wet ....taking precedence over 100's of more successful/acclaimed/famous films...
We need more films that benefit most from our home theatre systems ... The MGM color version was a huge hit ....would gain more ...I'm a lone voice wanting "bigger benefits”…..like Color /!widescreen & / stereo where available.... Warner disappoint with too many average titles (box...
Yes agreed ..Wichita is a weak choice for upgrading to Blu Ray as are most of the titles lately... dangerous when wet (so dumb) ... spinout... gay puree....& Too many 30's old old ....where are the huge MGM library titles locked away .... waiting
I have experienced multiple DVD's - burnt (not MOD) Warner pre 2010 pressings - that suddenly stop and will play no further, usually 1/2 way into disc. All have been stores upright, without scratches or markings, previously viewed once. Same problem on all players (Pioneer top spec, Oppo, Laser...
Why are Warner "wasting" BD upgrades on average to lesser films and very old titles, when so many major "A" (critical & BO) remain - including titles that would benefit most with stereo sound and widescreen...Spinout? Father's Dividend? 33's Little Women...and Wichita ....an RKO average western
How good is this ...however the trickle of "big" M-G-M titles release on BD is so slow ...with many high level (BO & critics) titles remaining while we receive many early 30's less highly regarded ...."average" films like Lion in Streets & Boy with Green Hair ...and the "big" ones that would...
More than an expanded I Love Lucy - a top director - Vincent Minelli - a story line with key "events" that keep the laughs rolling ....the featured song Breezin Along with the Breeze was released in stereo - pity the film did not have an available stereo soundtrack...a welcome return to release...
Thanks! what is the release company? Paramount has not released the film and on line I found a statement that the only 16:9 version available is from Spain....this is a far more important Presley film than most of his others, all readily available in multiple original theatrical versions.
Where is Loving You - Paramount obviously has rights issues holding this very good "star" color release from being available...the current pan & scan weak image verion looks more like a pirate release ....
With such an "illustrious" M-G-M library of hundreds of A titles sitting in the vault ...one wonders why George continues to upgrade to BD so many films which are either "rare/old/moderately ranked on imdb" or "poorly received at BO" or "critically weak". Our Dancing Daughters (very old &...
Let's hope the releasing companies do a better marketing job to create more of an interest in the old movies in an attempt to broaden the sales potential....while Kino continue to release a massive backlog of "ordinary" (as in average original b/o & critical recognition) titles Warner continue...
Yes great review, a great film but was 1.85 correct as it is often listed as 2.00. Also why was there a blu ray release, a little earlier in Australia at a cut price? The quality is inferior...
What is it with this film? It was a disaster at the box office opening and closing quickly. Critics and members here are derisive of it. Why then did so many of us love and watch and re watch it? Maybe we are junk lovers but the camaraderie between these two A list actors in their prime, and...
Panned by many but this film was a hit in Australia running for many months first run and BO exceeded 4m. Bosley Crowther wrote it off while Variety commended it as "engrossing". Hot & cold for sure but an A grade Metro class picture.
