Smart choice there. Even if you don't have an HDTV NOW, theres no point in having to buy a whole new system if you do get one. HDMI is always a good thing to have for later down the road.
I believe any remote with a "Z chip" will power a lighting system using X-10. If its what I'm thinking of my dad got certified to install it here in Arkansas and he was told they could be controlled by MOST new Universal Remotes.
