Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

Yea that's more or less what the manual said--I don't think there are specific steps to just select the B speakers and the Sub. The closest I found was selecting A/B then selecting the stereo (2.1) setting which will probably fine seeing as you said the mains will get drowned out anyway. Just...

Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

Perfect, that sounds a lot easier than I thought it would be. You've been very helpful and it's much appreciated. I have one last question and I think i'll be able to go ahead and set this all up; how do I configure my receiver to just power the Sub and the B Mains?

Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

Perfect thanks, yea I could see the other speakers getting drowned out but the sub is downward firing so i feel like it will definitely add to the noise. How would I go about configuring the system so that it only plays the B Mains and the Sub Pre Out? I'm also wondering how to convert the...

Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

Should I not run the other speakers because it might overheat my receiver? The speakers are not that big of a deal but I do like how much punch the powered sub that comes with this system provides. Would it be a possibility to run the PAs and the sub?

Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

That sounds good, so if I were to connect those and switch output to B speakers it would just switch the mains? All the other speakers would still output including the sub correct? Also, is there some sort of adapter I can buy that will connect the +/- on my receiver to the 1/4" on the PAs you...

Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

I connect my music from my computer into the Optical In (TV/Tape) and there are RCA outputs (TV/Tape) on the back. Instead of buying an amp could I get a powered PA like this one and plug the RCA into the 1/4" mono plug with an adapter? The room is very small and I feel that one powered PA might...

Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

I'm a college student in an apartment complex and we always throw small parties. Noise complaints are not a concern and i'm basically trying to make my system louder than other rooms. My budget is anywhere from $300 - $400 and unbalanced sound isn't a hugh concern. Would it be possible to hook...

Adding Amp to Onkyo Home Theater

I have an Onkyo HT s5200 which sounds great but is not loud enough. I am curious if hooking up a second amp then two PAs off that would be an option? Or if there were louder L/R speakers I could hook up to the existing system? Any ideas would help me out, I basically just want louder music where...

    Having some HDMI audio trouble

Yea I think they have bad information in those online manuals, all i have is a mic on the left then 2 headphone jacks on the right with no red light that will only output SPDIF in analog unfortunately. But I like your recommendation for the sound card, I would have never thought of something...

    Having some HDMI audio trouble

Oh ok, that makes sense. So what would be the best way to get digital coax/optical from my laptop. Should i convert it from hdmi or from the s video output? Yea the laptop jack does work as an SPDIF jack and i can plug it directly into my stereo with an aux cable but it only outputs in analog...

HT-S5200 is the whole system and HT-R570 is the receiver.

    Having some HDMI audio trouble

[img]file:///C:/Users/Travis/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg">Hi all, I've been struggling the past few weeks to hook up my laptop to my receiver (Onkyo HT 7.1) for multi-channel audio. I have an HP Pavilion dv6700 with the outputs pictured below (not pictured is 7 Pin S Video).

want to create loud home audio on a budget

That sounds good then, I'm not looking to go for anything beyond 2 channels and good to hear it can take some abuse. THIS sub seems to have all of the inputs I could ever need, could I connect the 2 mains and that sub on that receiver? I see on the receiver specs that it has a 'sub woofer line...

want to create loud home audio on a budget

Thanks John, so I could really just forgo the whole mixer amp/preamp situation and just get a receiver like THIS? Then if I really wanted to add on later just get simple powered sub? Sorry to ask the same question so many times, just making very I understand before I go ahead and buy...

want to create loud home audio on a budget

Ok, so if I understand correctly I would be plugging in my TV and CD/DVD player directly into the mixer you mentioned above, which would feed into an amp/pre amp which would then power/feed the 2 x 12" speakers? I found this amp/pre amp on the same site, made by Behringer so I am fairly...

want to create loud home audio on a budget

Ok, this is sounding good. Just to be clear do I need the mixer, or is it just something that will make the whole system sound better? I understand the power amp is completely necessary, and I still do want to wire in my TV to the system so that I can get decent sound while watching movies, low...

want to create loud home audio on a budget

Perfect! that sounds like exactly what I was looking for. So maybe get two of those, a low price receiver and a powered sub and i'll be good to go? Or should I use that PA style one as a center and maybe consider investing in some low priced Left/Rights? I think that receiver should be good...

want to create loud home audio on a budget

I should have been more clear about where and what my uses are. I will be living in a fraternity house next year (I didn't want to say anything because of negative connotations people may have) and the louder the better. No one will be complaining about the noise, actually probably the opposite...

want to create loud home audio on a budget

I am completely new to home audio and I am moving into a small room on a college campus this fall. My only concern is creating an extremely loud system and I am willing to let other areas such as overall sound quality suffer. I still need everything; receiver, speakers, and a sub. My budget is...
