Interesting news. I haven't been on here for ages for one reason or another so this came as a bit of a surprise. Anyway, welcome to the new owners, and all the best going forward.
I don't know if it's been mentioned - I don't feeling trawling back through 700+ comments - but I just found Home From the Hill (the original DVD release) cannot even be read/recognized on any of my players/drives. Not happy, very poor show WB.
Nope, still the same. Odd, but thanks for trying.
Actually, I've just manged to track it down via the simple expedient of googling: Diese Erde ist mein dvd
That's interesting news - thank you. I see a listing for Yankee Pasha on Amazon.de but I can't find anything for This Earth is Mine. The latter is one I'm quite keen on; in my opinion, you can never have too much Henry King in your collection.
I'd have thought that Australian DVD, while All Region or Region 0, would be a PAL disc. Anyway, how is this movie still not on Blu-ray anywhere in the world?
Hi Dave, I've not been around here for a long time now and would like to update my settings and so on. In short, I'd like to have the username which is displayed for me changed from Livius to my own real life name, which is Colin McGuigan.
Is this possible? Thanks in advance.
Colin
Just stop defaming legitimate companies by using terms like "illegal" when what they are doing is nothing of the sort. Quoting clauses in your licensing agreements has nothing to do with other companies, and you appear to have an issue with acknowledging this.
I get that you're unhappy about...
Might be a good idea if you didn't make highly dubious claims about other companies "illegally" releasing titles then.
Region locking is only a legal requirement if a contract states that it is, and in the case of a company like Universal releasing their own titles and certainly not licensing...
I'm not "promoting" anything - I merely made mention of an alternative to a product already referred to and its availability on a major international retail site, nor am I making claims about the legitimacy of any companies without offering any backup on public fora. It's been a long time since...
Again, I'm not going to make any comment on the legitimacy of a given label. For one thing, it's a public forum, and aside from that, I simply don't possess the necessary facts to make that kind of call.
All I can say is that I found both Reprisal and Relentless looked very good, the latter...
I have no idea if the A&R releases are kosher or not, I figure it's up to the retailer to decide and Amazon have no issues at the moment.
BTW, that Reprisal disc you linked to, Brent, is an entirely different movie.
HaHa, you want to pin me down and I honestly can't remember now. It's one of those things that I seem to recall from chats/comments somewhere or other. Either way, I feel confident it will appear in due course.
Hi, Robin. I saw the Tourneur but haven't ordered it as I've heard the Warner Archive is working on a release of that one at some stage - I'll hold fire for now.
Reprisal (Rappresaglia) is also available from Amazon Italy - solid 4:3 image with no subtitle issues. I also recently bought Relentless (Il Vagabondo Della Citta Morta) from Italy. I think it may be a port of the French release but doesn't have the forced subs of those DVDs - the image is superb.
There's a pretty damning review on this release up on Amazon.de, Google Translate shows it offering similar criticisms to those made here by Robin. I'm a big fan of Tourneur's work and I've never seen this film, but it looks like I'll have to wait a little longer.
It's an old argument now, Terry, but it essentially comes down to concerns over longevity, typically barebones presentations and pricing that is, for the most part, higher than that of earlier pressed discs. I've never been a big fan myself but it is what it is and there are pluses, as you...
There may be some problems with the elements for Blood on the Moon. The UK and French releases of the film both use the same print and it's generally fine but there is a rough section during the stampede.
There looks to be something wrong with those Beaver screencaps - the ones supposed to come from the Koch release look to be duplicates of the Film Chest edition.
I have the German disc and it does not look like the caps posted. There's a random selection of captures from my own disc here...
