I am puzzled by the lack of a Blu ray release of BENEDICTION, a film I enjoyed a lot. No domestic USA release at all and only a DVD in the UK. Since it's a Terence Davies film, I'm hoping that maybe Criterion might release it - fingers crossed!
I'd love to see the Jessie Matthews musicals get the Blu-ray treatment (Evergreen, The Good Companions, It's Love Again, First A Girl, etc).
And another vote for The Devils - it's time for Warner's to put on the "big boy pants" and let this out of captivity!
Also one more - John Stahl's...
I know the quality is not ideal but I wish they would include an anaglyph 3D version for those of us who missed out on 3D tvs and don't use projection. I saw this in 3D in the theater and it was terrific.
Off the cuff, two films I'd like to see in 4K are Pandora's Box and Street Angel. I saw a print of the latter at MoMA and it was so beautiful, it brought me to tears.
I saw CAVALCADE at MoMA on Friday and it looked really terrific. Yes, some might consider parts of it a bit melodramatic but it is a beautiful film and still quite affecting. The attention to period detail is wonderful and I hope this version does get a release. Of course, it IS owned by Disney.....
Just noticed that Dona Herlinda and Her Son is getting a showing at MoMA as part of a Guillermo del Toro tribute (it stars his mother and he was a producer.) I think this should be ripe for a new release on Blu-ray.
I'd love to see a release of the version of Cold Comfort Farm featuring Sim. Acorn previously released it on VHS but there is no disc version available.
No Sunset Boulevard? and Moulin Rouge! doesn't belong on that list -- the 50's one maybe but not that garish mess!!
These "All-time Best" lists are so annoying.
Both of these films (Follow Thru and The Vagabond King) would be great releases. I've seen both theatrically - Follow Thru looks great and The Vagabond King has come stunning color design. They need to be more available!
I know NIGHT AND DAY is not particularly good but I'll always watch it to catch Mary Martin's stellar recreation of her original rendition of My Heart Belong's to Daddy.
Saw Benediction today and thought it was amazing and also devastating. Beautifully acted and directed. I was prompted to do some further reading about Sassoon and filled in some of the gaps about his life. I highly recommend seeing it. And be prepared to have a highly emotional response--I had...
