I have a 'bedroom theatre' (see my signature for equipment) so I know where you're coming from. One day my equipment will be moving out with me too!
I recommend getting a receiver that's future proof (mine has the ability to go to 7.1, but I don't need that many speakers at the moment) and some...
Unfortunately, my parents wouldn't let me build a shelf at the back of the room. They really wouldn't let me brace it either, they're worried about extra holes etc. (for re-sale).
So a neat solution is the best solution in this case. I have to get the installer back to see why the image is...
Hey guys,
I currently have a ceiling-mounted projector and everytime that I open or close the door, the projector shakes for a few seconds. Surely this can't be good for the unit/bulb?
It has a large extension pole fitted. I think it's nearly a metre long. Could this be the issue?
Maybe...
I have contacted the installer and he suggested that the problem may lie with the mount heating up and moving. He is going to come around next week and checkout the mount. Maybe a screw isn't tight enough or something.
I have an interesting update for you guys. It turns out that the projector is the one that is moving, not the screen. The projector itself is mounted on a 24-inch extension pole and while the roof has been deemed as rain damaged in parts, there is no visible damage near the ceiling mount...
Has anyone heard of 'PowerSmart'? These boards are Australian and they look alright, but wondering if anyone has any experience with these?

Thanks for your advice. I have previously glanced over some comments from people regarding power protection (and power line conditioners or whatever they're called) and they said that sometimes they won't provide enough juice for when you have a loud moment in the movie.
I will look into...
Hey guys,
I am now in the market for a power protection board after the purchase of a AV receiver. My question is that will something like this deliver enough power at times of high volume?
I also have a projector, blu-ray player and set-top box. In the future I will have 5 speakers plus one...
Alrighty, I have purchased the 919AH receiver and two Dali 'Concept 1' bookshelf speakers. I am going to look for a power protector tonight and some form of stand for the speakers. I will take a picture of the setup soon.
^ Yeah, only a few of those strands came loose when I pulled off the plastic protection around them. I will post pictures when I install the rear speakers tonight.
Thanks for your help!
On a side note, I went into a Bose store today and had a look around. Them they are expensive...
Just an update. I have purchased the 919 receiver and a pair of Dali 'Concept 1' bookshelf speakers. I listened to them in store and was blown away by them! Of course they both come with a 7-day return policy so I am safe to return them if I choose to.
But the speakers will soon become the back...
Thanks the advice. Maybe it's better if I save up and buy the speakers all together at a later date? Leaving enough time to listen to them all :D
With the receivers, I have been offered a Denon AVR-1909 for only $160 more. Is it worth the upgrade? If it's not, then the 919AH is in the lead for...
Just an update guys, I am now moving on to sound!
I think I have narrowed it down to these two receivers, thoughts? (Pioneer VSX-919AH or Yamaha RXV-565B)
Also, would these speakers be alright for the main floor ones? 120 watt 2-way floor speakers (Sherwood) $198. I wouldn't need an amp would...
Hey guys,
I am now getting ready to buy a receiver and some speakers!

Projector mount with 600mm extension pole has been installed. Next up: - Rack or shelves for blu-ray player, set-top box etc; - Power board of some sort (with extra protection than current one); and - Sound system with acoustic panels. I'll keep you guys updated. Feel free to leave...
In Australia, you won't find an electric screen for under $1,000. And I don't think I want to get one shipped from overseas. The cost and risk would be too high.
Hi guys, I have an update for you all. I have decided on the brand and model of the screen I'm getting. But I don't know whether to get powder coat ripple white or silver perl??? What colour is better?
Hi guys, Little update. I have ordered the Logitech Harmony One remote. Also have asked an installer to quote on a 72" pull-down screen. So those two sorted. Regards power protection, what should I use? Should I use a power cleaner? And if so, what level of protection? (1, 2 or 3?) Thanks!
Hi guys, I found a good deal on a 82" pull-down projector screen. The screen is a RED LEAF RLHT08229W. Is this a good screen? Are there any better ones for sub-$400? Thanks! Link
Thanks. I will get this screen purchase out of the way later this week and then start researching receivers. I think I will then just buy two front speakers and buy the other four and a subwoofer later. Is the function called 'HDMI pass through'?
Thanks. I wasn't sure if I needed to get another hardware piece, or if the receiver could carry the video through it. Is there any quality drop when it goes through the sound system?
Hi guys and gals, I have done a Google search and nothing came up to answer my question, so I'll ask here. I have a Panasonic Blu-ray player with one HDMI port. That is currently going into my Panasonic projector. Now, how do I get sound from my Blu-ray player if I upgrade to an...
Good evening, My name is Ashley and I am new to the forums. I am currently in the process of turning my bedroom into a home theatre/bedroom. I'm not sure if this is the right spot, but I am hoping to have this as my official thread for my purchases regarding the theatre. Oh, and...
