Starting from the ground up... I'm in the planning phase.... Where do I begin?

Here is what I know so far, I plan on building a house around the middle of next year. We will have a home theater in the center of the house. The room should be about 15'X20'... Windows optional. Okay... so where do I go from here? What are your questions? I plan on having a projector/screen...

    Need help with rear surrounds.

For the record, I am also new to the A/V HT world so take my info with a grain. Most on this site will tell you "You have to hear the speakers yourself because every ear is different", add to that each persons personal preference with base and loudness of what they are listening to and they...

The amp has arrived. Now I need to figure out how to connect it. I will pick up a Y cable today (Hopefully). As I undrstand it, I will run this AMP from the same port as my AMP isrunning from now (Thu the Y cable). I then connect the two Base shakers to the wires coming out of the back of...

Base shakers of powered sub? Can it be done... if so, how?

Robert, Once again, thank you very much for the info. My amp should arrive in a few days. For the record, I watched my first Blue Ray movie (5.1) today and without the shakers... The seats were shaking... I can not begin to express how giddy I was. It's all worth it. Thank you for your help...

7.1 rear speaker placement help needed..

Please excuse my ignorance. Can you move the couch forward say 3 feet, then use the existing surround speakers as your back speakers (Just wire them up to the receiver that way), then place the new speakers as your surround at ear level next to your couch... Looking at the date on this thread...

Warrenty or no? On line or local?

Well, I went with the warranty. After doing some research it seems NO ONE talks about these like it's some sort of voodoo. Anyway, after noticing the issues and the lack of help the companies want to give I opted to be safe rather than sorry. The company I purchased the HDTV from knocked almost...

Base shakers of powered sub? Can it be done... if so, how?

Martino, Great info, thank you. I will go with option one as you reccomended. Since I purchased the mountable amp, I was thinking about mounting it in the side of the seating. I have to first experiment with how much heat it is going to produce. Thanks again, Ray

Base shakers of powered sub? Can it be done... if so, how?

Robert, Thank you, I think I understand the hook up now (Though I still do not understand how to wire it, I will figure it out when the amp arrives). I still do not have any type of enclosure for my "rack" so I will keep in mind what equipment I do have when I built it since I already purchased...

    Center channel speaker?

Doing some research, I just read this: Notes About Hum The addition of a new component to an existing system can sometimes result in an audible hum. While it would be easy to assume that the new product is at fault or even defective, it is usually just an indicator that it is time to take a...

    Center channel speaker?

My uneducated WAG: I would first check your connections. Over time connections come loose with the base in the room. Second, is the power to your receiver conditioned? I had my laptop connected to my receiver today and with no music playing there was subtle feed back. My laptop was plugged...

You are absolutely correct and I will be gong with the 5.1 system. As many have recommended I will most likely go with the SVS speakers. Thank you for your post as you just saved me a nice chunk of change and I will most likely enjoy the system with proper speaker placement rather than trying to...

Great information, thank you for your post. I will be using the closet as a media room to house our DVD/Blue Ray collection as well as our home network. I do not plan on putting the stack in there as it is a little cramped and I will not be able to get behind the equipment easily to make...

Thanks, my wife tells me I am thorough in what I do. Yes, I plan on having both the HDTV for normal use and video games (12 y/o in the house) and a projector for "Movie Night" and events. The way I have it planned, when the room is closed up, you will not see either the TV or screen. I am...
